I love DB and im hoping this movie doesnt crash and burn like most cartoon-adapted movies but everytime they release another scan or pic of a character its like i want to say it looks great but deep down it a piece of crap how much can they alter in the db story before it just becomes another forbidden kingdom movie
Posted by: Vader on July 6, 2008 at 08:35:05
I smell another Speedracer type bomb. Sorry DB fans, just calling it the way I see it.

Agh! The CGI in this film is going to have to cost 300 million! I'll bet Freeza will be a man in a rubber suit! PowerRangers style, or maybe like the live action Guyver movies - rockin'!
And Japanese anime characters are Japanese people, alien or not. Same way American humanoid aliens are American people. Its the drawing style. If an anime/manga character is of a different race there are drawing techniques to show that. Besides Goku is based on the Japanese version of Sun Wu Kong the Monkey King from "Journey to the West". Asian story, Asian past, Asian artists he should be played by an Asian. Gonna suck either way.

I don't like to criticize movies before I even see them but....
Remember the super Mario Bros. Movie? Remember how good it was?
This movie is going to be that good.
If no one told you that this was a DBZ movie would you know it just by looking at it?
That's why it's going to be as good as Super Mario Bros.
UGH!

@ Taonzen
rubber suits come out way better than cgi a lot of the times just look at hell boy & if you need even more proff go to the hulk boards and see them complaining about how there movie failed
now why people are *****ing is just crazy omg hes frowning omg hes not asian
um lets see its a promo pic Justin is just showing that hes ready to kick some ass and Goku has always looked american in DBZ hell just look at supersaiyen and I dare you to call goku asian after that
Now the movie looks okay so far hopefully it will get better since there actually taking there time with it.
Posted by: veritas on July 6, 2008 at 10:07:27
awful...this movie looks like it is being marketed in the early 90s
Posted by: Taonzen on July 6, 2008 at 10:19:52
"Alien", another example of a rubber suit done well.
Most everything on the SciFi channel, bad CGI.
The care taken in one aspect of a film is usually reflective of the care taken in the rest of the movie. If these jokers really gave a sh** about what they were doing they would dole out better teaser stuff. Not the best! but better. They don't know the expectations of the fan base. So far the tastes passed out are closer to SciFi channel. So - Thumbs Down (keepin' it simple for ya).
Complaints aside, the CG was not what was wrong with either Hulk movie.
Supersaiyen is a powered up version of Goku whose hair turns blond in order to show the transformation and visually depict surging power. Blond hair equals American, the new math. Supersaiyen is Asian. Personally I don't care so much. I thought I could shed some illumination on what we see with our American eyes. You really want to get picky. Goku as a child looks like a monkey, has a tail and flies on a somersault cloud (his adult self flies under his own power). Sun Goku, the Japanese Sun Wukong, is Asian. Mario is Asian, he was never meant to be Caucasian, we saw him that way and it stuck.
I believe, until I see better, this movie will be lucky if it is half as good as "Forbidden Kingdom".

I'm long time fan of Dragon Ball. For more than 20 years now, I read, watch, collect and play with anything related to Dragon Ball or Dr Slump (another great work from Toriyama), I even enjoy watching that asian live action movie (probably chinese). I may not be as hardcore fan as I still were 10 years ago but there is no way I can understand how this movie can exist. It looks like **** from day one and nothing i've seen so far changed my opinion. I would be against it if the turd wasn't named Dragon Ball. Look, if was called "****-fu" or "Shaq-fu the movie", i wouldn't mind and I would wait to see the movie to judge but not there. DB isn't about a old teenager with a bad haircut who learn to make fireball while looking for dragon balls.
I think it's a big winner, a Razzie winner that is.
(note: maybe It's not a "Dragon Ball" movie but rather a dragon balls movie with characters trying to suck huge dragon balls like the "Saving private Ryan" 's parodie "Shaving Ryan Privates")

I'm no DBZ fanboy, and I still say the movie will drop like a f.ucking brick.
I enjoyed the cartoon okay, but this is just Hollywood raping another property.

like many of u, i'll see this movie in theaters, even if it sucks!!! but i do have a question guys: why is he dressed like teen gohan?
Posted by: Freelance Gynecologist on July 6, 2008 at 10:43:26
Meh, asian or american Goku, whatever, the actor just doesn't look right for the role, his martial arts display would have to be mind blowing for me to feel different. Otherwise will wait until this just comes to TV. (yea wont support it on dvd either).
Posted by: SaladSnake on July 6, 2008 at 11:13:12
You can't stop it anymore so what does it matter if they're asian or not. I'm a massive DB/Z/GT fan. I don't like the look of the movie but y'know what can we do? It's going to come out now it does not matter what we say.
Watch it and then post your views.

I was just wondering. Alot of people on this forum seem to not like any movie. I mean every movie that is posted offering new details and pics seem to get bashed. Don't get me wrong, I'm alittle discouraged the way this movie is turning out, but I still will see it and give it a chance. Again are their any movies you guys like, name some if you can, I'd be very suprised if you guys name more than one, if any.

Another Speed Racer just waiting to happen.
Posted by: calvan4 on July 6, 2008 at 11:53:50
The stills look pretty shhitty, I want to see kid goku with the tail. Yes, this does look like teen gohan, which is dumb. I'll have to wait for a teaser to actually give a real opinion. right now, looks shhitty, but its all up in the air.

I have watched the various Dragon Ball series since they first began showing the original dubs back in the late 80's and have spent my time over the many years enjoying the show despite its drawn out episodes in later seasons. Back in the 90's, I was quite the fan of the show, watching Nth gen copies of DBZ episodes and movies with friends and such.
I say all this to make a point. This show was original and interesting oh 20-25 years ago and the fact that it is pulling in people even today is quite surprising given the overall quality of many shows produced after it. This movie seems another sad attempt to pander to an audience and further cash in on a show that is older than 90% of its current audience and long since over. I don't imagine after the harassment of the original author and abuse by the series producers (and their forcing of GT) that he would even want to have anything to do with the show anymore except to pick up his residuals. All I see is another Street Fighter, Blood Rayne or Mortal Kombat Annihilation with bad production values and questionable hiring decisions. You might as well have hired Uwe Boll to direct this film. I really wanted to like the film (after being pleasantly surprised by Forbidden Kingdom) but the more I see, the worse this movie looks. It looks like it was creative designed and scripted by a 13 year old.

The pics look good actually. For those who are hating this movie, just wait for a trailer. Then judge.

Looks terrible.
Posted by: Idiots on July 6, 2008 at 12:48:38
I'm a DBZ fan and I can tell u this movie is terrible right off the top. Anyone who says this movie will be good is lying to themself. Seriously, who u trying to convince?

Spiritual sequel to the Mario movie.
I swear-it's like some studios know they're making terrible movies on purpose.
