Today the highly anticipated Batman: Arkham Asylum game has been awarded a Guinness World Record for the ‘Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever’.
Batman: Arkham Asylum has been given top scores across the board from National newspapers and specialist game reviewers. The game has broken the Guinness World Record in this category by achieving the highest average score of 91.67 from reviews around the world.*
Developed by Rocksteady Studios and based on DC Comics’ Batman license, Batman: Arkham Asylum offers players diverse gameplay that pushes the envelope for action, adventure and superhero games and exposes players to a unique, dark and atmospheric adventure taking them to the depths of Arkham Asylum.
Gaz Deaves from Guinness World Records states, “We are so pleased to be awarding Batman: Arkham Asylum a Guinness World Record. It is a fantastic new game and due to the reaction of gaming experts we believe it has a well deserved place in the Guinness World Records book.”
In Batman: Arkham Asylum, BATMAN finds himself trapped inside the confines of Gotham’s psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane, ARKHAM ASYLUM. THE JOKER has set a trap for the DARK KNIGHT and has conspired with the deranged inmates to eliminate BATMAN once and for all. Adding to the authenticity of the game are veteran animated Batman voice talents Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy, who reprise their roles as The Joker and Batman respectively.
Batman: Arkham Asylum features an original story by Paul Dini, Batman writer and five-time Emmy Award winner whose credits include Lost and Batman: The Animated Series. Gamers will move in the shadows, instill fear amongst their enemies and confront The Joker and Gotham City's most notorious villains, including HARLEY QUINN, BANE, KILLER CROC, POISON IVY and SCARECROW, who have taken over the asylum.
Batman: Arkham Asylum, co-published in North America by Eidos Inc. and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, is rated “T” for Teen and is available for PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360 for the suggested retail price of $59.99. It will also be available for Games for Windows LIVE at retail outlets for the suggested retail price of $49.99 on September 15, 2009. For more information, please visit www.batmanarkhamasylum.com.

It wasn't even that good.
Pretty repetitive gameplay, the lip sync is awful, the graphics are OK but the characters move like they're puppets.

who gives a rats ass!
not gonna play it. don't care enough to even scratch myself with the thought of that game in mind.

They had a category for that? Seems rather specific. What was it before Arkham Asylum came out? ..........Ooooohhhhhh.......I see.......they created a category just to promote the release of a game. Wow. How innovative of Guiness World Records. The whores.

if you dont like this game you are exactly what is wrong with the critics of our genre.everyone is looking for that titanic of a game and to be honest this is the closest we will ever get besides hulk ultimate destruction there has not been a superhero game that has given the gamer the feel of that hero.all the people that hate are the same ones that jump down the throat of the messenger whenever they here an announcement about a comic movie that they dont agree with im happy that the comic book movie buzz is carrying over to other mediums and i hope they continue to put out and develop games that set the bar for our genre. congrats rocksteady well deserve award i hope you put out the sequel asap cause that game is visual CRACK!!!!!!

The game was amazing. Period. F**K everyone else who says they didn't like it. I just bought it the other day I and I loved every moment of it. It is the closest thing I have seen to a proper adaption of Batman in the comics. Everything worked to perfection. I hope they put out a sequel to it.

To all the retarded people that doesn't have a nice thing to say about Batman Arkham Asylum, this is very long over due batman game that captures the feel and essence of every thing about batman should be and I think rocksteady has done a awesome job at capturing that presence. In my opinion this is the very best batman game I have played since the NES days, this is the batman game that fans have been waiting for a very long time just like when the Dark Knight came out to theatres was the best film ever. Their both going to be hard to top but for now I am sitting here and enjoying every bit of it that I can and would to say thank you to the people that had created the perfect game and of course the movie also.

The game is engrossing and the Scarecrow portions are mind-blowing.

cool, it's a particular category but one I think that can finally be used, I can't wait to get this game, and screw you haters, if you don't like it that's fine, but don't ruin it for those of us who do!

@Prozac-Pedro
u said it perfectly.

yes, it does seem like too specific of a record to not be completely fabricated for the sake of promoting the game. and no, i'm not a hater, i'm a Batman fanatic and i bought the Collector's Edition with the Batarang replica at my local GameStop at its midnight release. but even i know a lark when i hear one.
the game may be good, but making a Guiness World Record for how critically-acclaimed it is sounds so phony and forced. the opinions of critics are so objective, and how many of those critics are legitimate anyway? how do they qualify to be legitimate critics? and is their positive opinions of the game worth a Guiness World Record? i personally don't think so.

its not a made up category theirs an actual guinness world records book for comics and video games theirs a whole lota random records in it

It is a bad ass game period. Just pray for more DLC like a clayface level or any other additional playable levels.

Hell Yeah!!! Batman is a record smasher.
P.S. There's always a douche bag that has to have a b!tch fit about everything. Their lives suck and so everything else has to suck to make them feel better about themselves. The should go dig in the sewer and pray they find a life, either way they still come out full of **** (: Batman Rulez!!!!

Im an avid gamer and I know a good game when I see one. This is one of the best. And if you hate it, then your either a die hard Marvel fanboy who hates anything DC or a complete moron. And theres no excuse for the latter.

where was this award when Spider-Man 2 the video game came out? Everybody/Critics gave it great reviews as well if not more than Arkham Asylum. The game is ok, but it falls short of greatness after a few hours of dull, repetitive, game play. Not to mention a crappy thought out story line. Here's the main goal of the game, "catch the joker." Critically Acclaimed? You don't know the meaning of the word.
