In case you needed another reason to buy the awesome "Batman: Arkham Asylum," in stores now, check out this launch trailer! We've also posted the press release on the launch below the trailer.

Batman: Arkham Asylum™, co-published in North America by Eidos Inc. and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, is available today for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Developed by Rocksteady Studios and based on DC Comics’ Batman license, Batman: Arkham Asylum offers players diverse gameplay that pushes the envelope for all action, adventure and superhero games and exposes players to a unique, dark and atmospheric adventure taking them to the depths of Arkham Asylum. The Games for Windows® LIVE version of the game will be available on September 15, 2009.

In Batman: Arkham Asylum, BATMAN finds himself trapped inside the confines of Gotham’s psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane, ARKHAM ASYLUM. THE JOKER has set a trap for the DARK KNIGHT and has conspired with the deranged inmates to eliminate Batman once and for all. Adding to the authenticity of the game are veteran animated Batman voice talents Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy, who reprise their roles as The Joker and Batman respectively.

“This has been an immense collaborative effort and we’re extremely proud of Batman: Arkham Asylum,” said Lee Singleton, General Manager, Eidos Game Studios. “From the reactions we have already received, we truly believe it will not only stand out as one of the games of the year, but establish itself as one of those rare action adventure games you simply cannot forget.”

“Batman is one of the most recognizable and iconic characters around the world and with the high quality launch of Batman: Arkham Asylum we are establishing the brand as a triple-A franchise,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “We are extremely proud of Batman: Arkham Asylum and consider it critical in developing and growing our key franchises.”

“The team at Rocksteady has poured an immense amount of love and effort into developing a game that Batman fans and gamers will enjoy,” said Sefton Hill, Game Director at Rocksteady Studios. “We’re very proud of Batman: Arkham Asylum. We are excited about the incredible response from the press and even more excited that everyone will now finally get their chance to play the game.”

Batman: Arkham Asylum features an original story by Paul Dini, Batman author and five-time Emmy Award winner whose credits include Lost season one and Batman: The Animated Series. Gamers will move in the shadows, instill fear amongst their enemies and confront The Joker and Gotham City's most notorious villains, including HARLEY QUINN, BANE, KILLER CROC, POISON IVY and SCARECROW, who have taken over the asylum.

Owners of the PLAYSTATION3 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum will be able to take control of The Joker in eight Challenge Maps as he battles wave after wave of enemy do-gooders. The Joker Challenge Maps are available now as free downloadable content through the PlayStation®Network. In addition, the PLAYSTATION3 version of the game unlocks the Batman: Arkham Asylum Batcave Outpost in PlayStation®Home, an exclusive personal space available to those who purchase the game for PLAYSTATION3. The Batcave Outpost comes complete with the BATMOBILE, BATWING, and tons of other great features, allowing fans to call the BATCAVE their own home within Home.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is rated “T” for Teen and is available for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION3 for the suggested retail price of $59.99. It will also be available for Games for Windows at retail outlets for the suggested retail price of $49.99 on September 15, 2009.

I don't get the whole Batman thing. He's got no powers. Why doesn't somebody just shoot him in the head?

Posted by: Conman on August 25, 2009 at 15:38:19

Wow..PS3 seems to be getting the upper hand for once..

I've been saving my money. Flat screen TV, PS3 Slim, Arkham Asylum, and The Fountain Blu-Ray in two weeks.

Posted by: ps3??? uh no. on August 25, 2009 at 15:47:11

This came out for the xbox 360 today as well as ps3. I know, b/c I'm buying it right now and my friend bought it for his XBOX this morning. Why do you all assume its a ps3 exclusive? The SHH description says "is available today for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360®" in the 1st sentence for goodness sake. Learn to read good ppl. Thanks.

Damm I cant be buying all these good games.

Posted by: FOO MAN JU on August 25, 2009 at 15:59:18

Hey. The joke is the only PS3 exclusive part about batman...besides, I've played the demo and it's ok...seems like it could get a bit repetitive. Although HARLEY QUINN is hot!!!

Posted by: dnno1 on August 25, 2009 at 15:59:42

Will have to admit that this is the best Batman game to date.

Posted by: BATMAN!!!!! on August 25, 2009 at 16:13:49

The Joker is a PS3 exclusive, at least for now!! However the game did release on both 360 and the PS3.

Bleh. Video games universally suck.

Posted by: jrock on August 25, 2009 at 17:39:23

@ FU MAN JU - It only looks repetitive when you play the demo because you donb't get that far into the game. As you progress through the game, the bad guys that start off with no weapons do eventually obtain things like tasers and knives. When that comes along, you have to think smart about how to attack them, like punch a dude witha taser, elbow back to a dude behind you with a knife, and so forth. By then it's more than just button mashing.

have it and a ps3 slim reserved!will get it in a few days!yes!
batman, hellboy, wolverine, cole from infamous, rorsach are my favorite superheros!

Posted by: kal on August 25, 2009 at 20:05:29

what i dont get is why the batman villains always look so stupid, same with every other superhero movie game tie in. just make a realistic batman game with normal looking folk and make it dark and gritty and some times frightening like the dark knight movie.

however this game does look the best comic book game to date. but will have to play it to find out.

Had the Special edition pre-ordered since may 5th.
I didn't receive my 12 inch metal batarang instead I received a 14 inch plastic one I nearly shat with anger.
Gamestop neglected to mention this when they sold it to me this morning.
Other than that it is the best game I've ever played.
Batman Arkham Asylum gets a ten 10 buy it
It's the most authentic batman experience ever.
Only my plastic batarang and jim gordons crappy voice are the negative.

This is one of the greatest games i've played in along time. I kind of was worried at first. They finally got right.

Posted by: the man behind the mask on August 25, 2009 at 21:03:55

I think most if not all the voices are from the 90's animated series which are way better than any of the movies except the first 1 lol. Can't wait to play this 1 tho phone of the hook an no sunlight for a couple of days should b great. Mark Hamill is the joker

Posted by: EdMonsta on August 25, 2009 at 21:11:25

I have the Collectors Edition

Cool graphics overall, although I wish Batman's cape and cowl were better designed by the game's designers to appear as one unit, meshed together. As is, the cape and cowl appear to be two distinct, separate pieces of Batman's costume. From the back, the cape looks like a hanging curtain. The old '60's TV show, campy as it was, at least made it look like Batman's cape and cowl were one piece. Aesthetically, it just looks better that way and is truer to how the costume appears in the comics.
