Christopher Nolan Directing Inception Next

ComingSoon.net reports thatChristopher Nolan has set up his next project with Warner Bros., an original screenplay he wrote called Inception. The "Dark Knight" director hopes to shoot the sci-fi action film in the summer for a release during summer 2010.

Inception is described as "a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind."

This pushes back any potential filming on a third Batman film, but three years -- and The Prestige -- passed between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Nolan has also long been attached to direct a big-screen adaptation of the British TV series "The Prisoner" for producer Scott Stuber at Universal.

Nolan is the man.

I write about food. Can you believe that? Pathetic aren't I?

Look forward to seeing his next movie.

Dang... I really wanted to see another one, but maybe the timing will be right later. Something so epic can't be followed up too soon.

Posted by: Rodrigo on February 11, 2009 at 16:54:15

Well...Batman being pushed back WAS NOT what I wanted to hear.

Posted by: Soral on February 11, 2009 at 16:54:51

Whoa! Yes, always good to see something original.

Also, can't wait for more news, story, cast, setting.

Pathetic would be one way to describe you, regwec, yes.

Glad he's taking some time to do something else before he gets to work on the next Batman. This is good to give an artist space.

Posted by: Wakkidus on February 11, 2009 at 17:02:10

Should be pretty cool.
Loved The Prestige!
And yeah, always good to give an artist space. We don't need another Spider-Man 3 incident... y'know since Raimi directed three Spidey movies back-to-back-to-back...

My sentiments are divded on this but I have to use practicality and logic. It was mentioned that space is good for an artist. That is true. It's like working or looking at numbers for too long. After a while everything starts blurring up and Mr. Nolan needs to have a clear mind if he wants to follow up an Epic with a Masterpiece. And while I don't like the waiting, I welcome the dedication this director puts into his craft.

Hey guys. I anounced before that I was setting up a Batman Website purely for fans of The Dark Knight. I received an email from DC comics and they have given me full surport. The site will be up for Batman's 70th Anniversery. The site will include a feature where you can writw your own scripts either for the comics or The third movie. Thankyou Bat fans.

I hope its anywhere near The Prestige, qualitiy wise, or else it would really suck to see a potential 3rd Batman film delayed

Posted by: Menasyng on February 11, 2009 at 17:06:38

Thank god. I don't want Nolan anywhere near another Batman film right now. The last thing I want is another X3 S-M3 fiasco. He took a break between begins and TDK to clear his head and this is the right move for him. He needs to do something to clear his pallet before jumping back into his universe. Anyone who says differently is retarded.

We all expect the Third bat film in 2011 anyways. This just gives us something to look at in the mean time.

Posted by: Luke on February 11, 2009 at 17:11:31

This is very good news. It'll allow Nolan a chance to clear his head plus it's just something different, something original. I think doing Prestige between the two Batman movies is what helped make Dark Knight even better. Rushing projects results in Spider-Man 3.

This might be a sign that Nolan won't direct Batman 3. It always starts with something innocuous like directing another film and "pushing" the next movie in the franchise back. Which is usually codeword for a new director or replacement actor.

I hope BatFanMan lives up too his promise...I want to write my scripts for Bats and if DC get too see good ideas by anyone...JACKPOT!!!

I'm glad to see that the SHH comment machine is taking this well.

Nolan taking a break is a great thing. Think about all the other great sequels where the writer/director took their time before delivering another movie. For example, James Cameron did The Terminator in '84, but did Aliens in '86 and The Abyss in '89 before doing Terminator 2 in '91 (he had nothing to do with T3 & T4)

Nolan has yet to make a terrible film, and seeing what else he can deliver besides the World's Greatest Detective is always a treat.

Batman and epic in the same sentence always makes me laugh!
His efforts before TDK were his best - I'm glad he's taking a break to do something else.

I guess I spoke too soon about the commentators not being idiotic about this:

Did you totally miss The Prestige? He did that the year after Batman Begins, and still delivered TDK in '08.

I shall masturbate fiendishly to everything Chris Nolan works on.

Posted by: regwec on February 11, 2009 at 17:27:02

You can believe whatever you want. But when a film gets "pushed back" its always a codeword for something negative to follow. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear Nolan will not be directing in the next year or so.

I could not care less.

This sounds very promising!

more of Nolan's work is fine by me,he hasn't disappointed me yet. These projects would definitely give him time to think of a kickace screenplay to write for a third installment in the Batman franchise so we dont have mistakes like Forever and B&R
