hahah dont even think about it

Awesome. This movie deserves the nods it's getting.
Not sure if it's actually going to win most of them though. It has some tough competition, and the whole superhero-genre political crap that might hamper it.

Keep on making waves TDK you deserve much for the amazing film that you have brought to our eyes.

marvel ..I dont know if its sarcasm or insanity but get some help .

I guess tha "marvel" is the only one who didn't like it! but what can you do?... there's always a guy who likes to nag...
My opinion is that both movies were great (IM and TDK)... but TDK deserves all the prizes this time!

i love all these nominations. but it's gonna be hard to win. unfortunately voters will ALWAYS lead toward policitcal pieces like slumdog or surreal pieces like button. not saying they don't deserve recognition, just that TDK has more to overcome, imo.

Heath Ledger deserves a nomination for "Dark Knight" - no question. Plus, the sad irony that the nominations will be announced on January 22 - the first anniversary of his untimely death ...

None of this matters. Its the Oscars that count. With the exception of Ledger, TDK will be SOL at the Oscars.
Posted by: Karl Marx on January 8, 2009 at 15:20:23
This movie deserves a best picture Oscar like Marley And Me deserves a best picture Oscar. The dog was actually a better actor than Bale. You can give Ledger a sympathy Oscar but that's about it.

As much as I like this open comment section...maybe this should be taken as a sign we need some sort of registration now. AND SOON.
Having said that, great to know Nolon got such a high honor, and kudos to Fincher too, Benjamin Button was an excellent film, beautifully directed.

and the hype machine keeps going...

people are idiots if they think Tropic Thunder is one of the best movies of the decade.
it's a good movie but doesn't deserve awards.
the nominations prove to everyone that The Dark Knight IS an awesome movie. And I'm not one of these idiots who are constantly bashing the boards over TDK.
Why can't you immature kids understand that? lol.
Sorry...everyone of you are proved wrong, the nominations prove it. Admit it.

Karl Marx said: You can give Ledger a sympathy Oscar but that's about it.
Meanwhile everyone knows sympathy will have nothing to do with a win. Nice try.

It's high time Nolan got his due props! I hope he gets an Oscar!

They once gave 11 academy awards out to a science fiction/fantasy movie called THE LORD OF THE RINGS so why not give it to a superhero movie called THE DARK KNIGHT that deserves it!

Maybe TDK doesn't deserve to win? It does deserve at least a nomination though. The other movies nominated are in a totally different class.
Where's Wall-E? Doesn't that have a higher rating than any of the films above including TDK? No love for Wall-E and Eve!

Slumdog Millionaire will win
Posted by: Steelsheen on January 8, 2009 at 17:04:25
yes! finally a much dserved nom for Nolan, not just for TDK, but for his body of work as a whole. i think with the DGA nom this will definitely assure a Best Picture slate for TDK at the Oscars.

TDK was a fun movie. Heath Ledger was absolutely phenominal as the joker and deserves a supporting actor nod.
As far as the rest...This was not the best directed film of the year nor the best film of the year. Aside from Heath's performance it was a fairly typical action flick

You know it's funny, a friend of mine and I were having an in-depth convo about TDK and all it's moral layers and it's simply genius multi-plot/sub-plot driven storyline (Jonah Nolan...kudos). There are so many layers to this movie, as good as it is at surface level, think about the characterizations and how each is developed throughout. It's an amazing cinematic masterpiece that shouldn't go unnoticed. It deserves every nod it gets!

6 nominations. that is great. I hope it goes that way on the oscars.

well, you have to think about how hard it was for danny boyle to direct a great film in such a foreign country with no-name actors and make it amazing. david fincher also did an amazing job with the effects for benjamin button, nolan had an outstanding cast to start with, so it makes his job all the more easier!
