Things are looking good for The Dark Knight's possible Best Picture nomination at the Oscars as The Producers Guild of America has just nominated the movie for its annual Producers Guild Awards taking place Saturday, January 24 at the Hollywood Palladium. The Dark Knight is going up against The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk and Slumdog Millionaire for Best Picture.
The Screen Actors Guild previously nominated Heath Ledger for Best Supporting Actor and The Dark Knight for Best Stunt Ensemble. That awards ceremony takes place on Jan. 25.
This Wednesday, the Writers Guild of America will announce its nominees, while the Oscar nominations will be announced on Jan. 22.

A triumph, no matter what the Oscar outcome. I really hope the stunt ensemble wins the SAG because they really did an oustanding job!

Well good...it really does deserve a nod...They did credit to comics as well as cinema and acting. All in all I think this movie was such a stepping stone to get good directors and actors into these kinds of movies...because they work for such a wide audience.

Batfans, awards don't mean a thing when you make a ton of money. I don't care what awards TDK or IM or any other movie wins, the only thing that matters is - it made money. What do you think the production company looks at most, the Oscar winners list or the BoxOffice receipts list? And it would have been a success without the fanboys seeing it 10 times (hell, that probably hurts the franchise in the long run) and without Ledgers death, so don't worry about these dumb awards... unless not winning drives Nolan back to making 'important' movies... then you might have a problem.

LOL this is meaningless. The globes are the best predictor of the oscars and they shunned TDK. Ledger will get the oscar and that's it.

marantaz - you seem to think that box office is the only mark of a film. If that was the case, Shawshank Redemption would be known as a crap film, when quite the opposite is true.
Box office matters when it comes to the possibility of a potential sequel and that's about it - it matters absolutely not at all in how people, or history judges the relative 'worth' of something. In that case, yes, winning the Oscar IS more important than what a film takes at the box office, but ultimately even an Oscar isn't a true measure of a film's worth - only history can judge that.

Keith, I love your comment
So many great films have had crappy box office totals because the idiotic american audience can't go to a movie to be enlightened. they must be thrilled.
but the dark knight does deserve a nod, and ledger best win the oscar. if he gets turned down just because he passed away, similar to how brokeback lost best pic because hollywood went homophobic, it will be a sad day for hollywood...

Regwec, you are absurd. The Golden Globes are well-known for botching their nominees time and time again. They gave best film to Atonement last year!

My prediction is it gets snubbed! Shame! Because Heath Ledger was NOT EVEN IN TDK! He completely became The Joker for 2 and half hours! Outstanding! I cannot find one trace of him in that movie!
It should also get a Best Director nod!!!

what about Wall-E

I think The Dark Knight is worthy of more awards that it is being nominated for, as half the films getting all the award nominations are basically bland and some cases awful dramas and biopics Hollywood should take a look at the films they are praising as many of them are cr*p
If I was choosing the Oscar Nominations I would have these films being praised
The Dark Knight
Slumdog Millionaire
Wall.E
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
these films Empire movie magazine have given 5 stars too
unlike the pathetic 3 stars Australia recieved and see how many awards its been nominated for

That's good news. It was ABSOLUTELY CRIMINAL for The Dark Knight to not be nominated at the Golden Globes... Not only does it deserve to win the Oscar for best picture but I'm sure that it would increase the show's ratings to nominate the movie...
Posted by: optimusprime on January 5, 2009 at 15:58:28
Im so happy. Thank you for everybody who chose TDK for best picture.

You're serious. Dark Knight in the same category as Frost/Nixon. And Slumdog Millionaire. Poor High Culture, we hardly knew ye
