The Dark Knight Breaks Blu-ray Disc Sales Record
Source:Video Business
December 11, 2008

The Dark Knight sold a record 600,000 Blu-ray Discs in the U.S. on its first day of release on Dec. 9, or about 21% of its total units, according to Warner Home Video.

"We think we will hit 1 million this weekend," said WHV president Ron Sanders. "What's really encouraging about it is that the Blu-ray version did exceptionally well across the board. It wasn't just selling in Best Buy or Wal-Mart, but also it did well in grocery and game stores. It was surprising to us just how well it did."

Prior to The Dark Knight, the best Blu-ray Disc performer was Paramount Home Entertainment's Iron Man, which moved 260,000 high-def copies on its first day on sale Sept. 30, and 500,000 units in its first week.

This year's highest-grossing film, The Dark Knight, which generated $530 million in U.S. theatrical ticket sales, moved about 3 million copies in both standard and high-def in the U.S. on its first day of release.

The movie's 21% Blu-ray Disc share of sales easily tops the average 10% portion that was generated from releases in the format earlier this year.

i dont think dark knight will be the best movie ever ever. i mean there are too many good movies but its definitely in my top 20 of all time (number one being Godfather Part II, and number two being Gone with the wind).

the only reason this movie did good is cuz yuh boi heath died.

otherwise this movie would have bombed out da gate.

the dark knight is the worst superhero movie ever.

Posted by: lulzmanlulz on December 11, 2008 at 20:09:45

Posted by: byte19 on December 11, 2008 at 20:18:08

@byte19....Awesome lol

Ok so TDK made great sales all around..um..YEAH...cool...whatever. The only reason Im on this website posting a comment or two is because...

A: Im a geek and proud of it. Shoot all my nerd hobbies haveturned into popular stuff...whos a comic geek now Mark Fitzburgh (fake name) big joke douche bag..lol.

B: I am deployed and really have nothing else better to do besides PT and check my email...and laugh at how lonely some of these people are on here lol.

Ok I realize you guys love comics..me too...duh..but GDamn!!! Turn it down a notch and stop thinking your little petty lives are going to better if you say..

(NERDY VOICE SLURRING SPIT) TDK was BY FAR the best movie ever...and spiderman 3 sucked and in issue #234 of Iron Man Tony Stark wore the Mach 5 Armor and it looks toally nothing like the movies. BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH I HAVE NO GIRLFRIEND AND WONDER WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok Im done ranting at fellow geeks lol...OUT!!!

Posted by: Guy in a Suit on December 11, 2008 at 20:52:33

Having TDK on DVD is awesome, but wow, those extra features suck!

Posted by: your mama on December 11, 2008 at 20:56:03

iluvspderman3 is such a hater. Get over that your sorry @$$ spiderman films suck buddy! SpiderMan 3 is without a doubt the single worst comic film EVER! Even over the original Punisher film with Dolph Lundgren, hell even over the bootleg Fantastic Four film!

It's so sad Spiderman people try to come in here and crap on Batman...just read the news guy..oh and the box office records...oh and the watch the award nominations...oh and the DVD sales. But your right I guess, a flick doing all that has over rated actors and would bomb. Sure, al the ype leading up to Ledger before he died was the conspiracy of WB execs blogging online., you right man. My bad cuz.

If your gonna crap, do it where people give $***

Posted by: Punisher4Life on December 11, 2008 at 21:05:27

Iron Man was better film and DVD.
Punisher: War Zone is the best comic book film EVER!
FIRST lol

Posted by: Guy in a Suit on December 11, 2008 at 21:10:24

All those Punisher movies and they still suck.

Posted by: Matt Murdock Pimp on December 11, 2008 at 21:15:03

TDK easily the best comic book adaptation ever.
Just a bunch of tools wanting to cause conflict- they all know they saw it twice in theaters and bought the dvd.
As for Punisher movies: more people saw their dvd of TDK LAST NIGHT than the total number of people who has bothered to see War Zone.
