Warner Bros. Plans Dark Knight Rerelease

Warner Bros. Pictures plans to rerelease blockbuster The Dark Knight in January, the height of Academy Awards voting season, says The Hollywood Reporter.

"It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people," a source told the trade.

Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman acknowledged ongoing talks with IMAX executives about the prospect of restoring the film to some number of giant-screen venues in January. It's uncertain if The Dark Knight also will reappear in conventional theaters at that point.

To date, the film has earned about $513 million domestically and $440 million internationally, including more than $55 million in IMAX grosses. The DVD and Blu-ray Disc are expected to hit stores in December.

Yeah, because we've all forgotten about it, haven't we. Just get it out on DVD/BR and stop being so greedy, WB!

Really? Do we need it out longer? I might end up hating this movie. Just bring it on dvd and be done with it.

Posted by: OMG! on September 11, 2008 at 02:27:51

Holy ****, this is it's chance! This is what it needs to beat Titanic.

It a good idea from WB/Dc to do this.

I hope Ledger and RDJ will get some recognition for their roles, respectively...at any award show.

Posted by: Elvis on September 11, 2008 at 02:30:22

Great news. Still don't think it will beat Titanic, although it deserves to. I thought Batman Begins was going to be tough to top, but this movie more than exceeded my expectations. It should stay in theaters forever.

Wow, this is epic!!!

You say you might end up hating the movie just because the studio wants to milk it to its very last drop? And I thought one was supposed to like or dislike a movie based on the QUALITY. The DVD/BR is scheduled to be released in december. The re-release is to keep Ledger's performance fresh in oscar voters' minds.

TDK has been slammed up against all other superhero movies inside the Hadron Collider and has proven to be the best superhero movie ever made. It is now scientific fact!

I coild care less about Box Office numbers or titanic, but re-releasing during "oscar" season is the best move. It should be considered for best picture no doubt. If theres some online thing for the oscars, then this will certainly be the one to choose.

Posted by: Batman Cookie Fan on September 11, 2008 at 02:40:25

Agreed with Eternal Knight's statement. It REALLY is SCIENCE people.

Posted by: Glasgow Smile on September 11, 2008 at 02:51:05

Well, there's at least 50 more dollars going to my local IMAX.

You guys know if it's re-released it'll beat Titanic..................................................................YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just what my name says.

Posted by: TPJR on September 11, 2008 at 03:08:05

That's a good idea. Make them remember who kicked their ass when voting time comes around...

I need to go on the record and state that Johnny Depp as the Riddler, is just over hyped bull. I think people could see him as replacing the joker, but I don't think they will, therefore they place him in the next closest role. I just don't think mr. depp would work out in this world, honestly to big of a name. Nobody thought Heath would do as good as he did, and he blew us all away. I think the riddler needs to be smaller, creepier, and more unkown. IGN.com had an article about villains for the next film, and placed Michael Emerson(Ben Linus from LOST) as a good option. I think that is the direction they should go with if they do riddler. Nothing to big that draws away from the character, and a big name like Depp, I think would kill that, ala Jim Carrey.

It's just a matter of bringing down the Titanic as a reminder for people.

Posted by: Galactus on September 11, 2008 at 03:18:26

If it beats Titanic I wouldn't be all that impressed. After all TDK has the advantage of higher ticket prices, being released in IMAX-theaters (with even higher ticket prices), and now a re-release that might help it.

If it garners Oscar nominations, great! I so there to see it again in January.
