While we await the four-day holiday weekend estimates on Monday, Warner Bros. Pictures revealed that The Dark Knight became only the second movie in Hollywood history to surpass the $500 million mark at the domestic box office on Sunday, bringing its total to $502.4 million. Titanic, the biggest blockbuster, remains in first on the domestic chart with $600.8 million.
Dan Fellman, head of distribution at Warner Bros., said he expects The Dark Knight to finish at about $530 million, though it could reach $550 million if business persists as strongly as it has.
The Christopher Nolan-directed sequel earned an estimated $19 million internationally from 62 markets this weekend. It has reached an international total of $416.7 million and $919.1 million worldwide, the 10th highest of all-time.

Did anyone expect anything less?
Now it just needs to remain in theaters for another two to three months and it will attain the $98 million necessary to surpass Titanic.
Okay... so Warner Brothers have decided to release it on DVD during the holiday season leaving the film with little time to accomplish said feat.
It's still possible... it's still possible. ;D

Despite all you Batfans talking **** about the Punisher, Im still going to support the Dark Knight so he can reach 600 million. That way we can see more serious comic book films.

As nice as it would be for it to defeat Titanic, I'm just happy that TDK has done so well.
I worry about the sequel though. It seems like a challenge too tough to overcome. Damn the ending for leaving us wanting more though!

Just got done seeing it for a third time in IMAX. I was hoping for a dome theater but it was nice how often it would switch from the letterbox format to IMAX like with aerial shots or with the Tumbler. I can't say the experience was incredibly better, though I noticed the sound a bit more, but I did enjoy seeing it once again since it's been awhile. One thing ruined it for me though....
Damn kid sitting next to me saying aloud, "Why doesn't Batman just kill the Joker?!" Dumb kid. He also called the prisoner stupid on the boat for throwing out the remote to the bomb. Obviously he doesn't know **** about what a hero is or stands for. He'll probably end up as some corrupt cop when he grows up.

i ****ing love this movie man, anyone that didn't see it for the first time on IMAX really ****ing missed out, if you did then you know how ****ing mind-numbingly amazing it was; ****ING ROCKED!!! and secondly dont know bout it being 5th or 6th, like it MIGHT be able to topple the domestic total of Titanic (god - ****ing - willing, cause that movie ****ing blows,it'll be quite a difficult task to topple the all time worldwide (including domestic) but it can reach #2 for sure. It just needs like 200 more worldwide, so if it at least makes like another 50 here, it'll for sure hit 2, cause the movie opened pretty damn late in a lot of the major foreign markets. Too bad it isn't doing so well as it is domestically :(

TDK is going to make $1 billion worldwide. It's basically a virtual lock. WB expects its U.S. gross to finish around $530 to $550 million. That means it only has to get $470 to $450 million overseas. It's already at $416 million overseas! No way it makes less than $80 million more oeverseas in its final run. Remember it just opened in some countries like a week ago.
So like I said $1 billion is a lock. The real questiion is whether it can make another $100 million after that to pass ROTK and become #2 all-time worldwide as well. It probably wont (thanks to Japan prefering to play with thier little wii's rather than watch TDK. Thanks alot Japan)

Real nice, but I also feel sorry for its sequel. If it doesn't follow these type of numbers, all of fandom will probably blame it on casting, script problems or some absurd type of bullsh!!!t, not reckonizing it'll probably be the most obvious. The death of a well respected actor gone in the prime of his life, not to take away from the masterpiece which is, The Dark Knight. Thats alot of green. Some of these bloggers will think that if it overthrows Titanic, that Hollywood will start taking comic-book movies serious. Thats the stupidest sh!!!t I ever heard. All thats gonna do is make a sh!!!t load of copycats jump on the scene and try to do a Christopher Nolan or Zack Snyder with a comic character. We can't forget about Bryan Singer post Superman and Sam Rami or even Mr. Del Toro. They also brought some fire to these types of films and not every character should be explained with the detail orientated insight that gave Batman its legs to walk away from the travisty that is Shumacher. Good job Mr. Nolan and company. R.I.P. to Heath Ledger, and may this movie bring forth a slew of other DC into the light, cause Marvel now seems to be on the job. HUDZ'08

I really have to agree with you Aaric
I probably live on an entirely different Continent to you and still I could swear I sat near that same Damn kid. All over the world these Dunces are leaving the family braincell at home with the goldfish and ruining our enjoyment of movies. Please use contraception people, It may be a long word being that it's not monosyllabic. But the consequences of your two minutes of ugliness Is a world of pain for the rest of us.
