The Dark Knight Score Coming July 15

"The Dark Knight Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" -- the haunting score to the hotly anticipated feature film The Dark Knight -- will be released by Warner Bros. Records on July 15, 2008, three days before the movie opens nationwide on July 18th.
Composers Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard, who collaborated on the score for the 2005 blockbuster Batman Begins, were asked by director Christopher Nolan to work together again, scoring its follow-up, The Dark Knight. The duo recorded the orchestral soundtrack for the film in London this April.
Warner Bros. Records will release four different configurations of "The Dark Knight soundtrack: a standard jewel case CD, a 2 LP set of heavy-weight 180 gram vinyl version, a special edition digipack, and a collector's edition with special artwork to come after release.

I guess I'll wait until the collector's edition. I prefer Hans Zimmer's work.

I thought the BATMAN BEGINS soundtrack was pretty unremarkable. I've seen the movie a dozen times, and I can't remember a single melody. I understand that they probably didn't want to go over the top like Elfman's infinitely more memorable scores, but BEGINS was a little too low-key.

The soundtrack during the car chase in BB is pretty good. that's the only one I remember though.

12th?? (idiots..) For some reason, I'm simultaneously excited and apprehensive about this movie. Sure the 1989 soundtrack had Prince for pete's sake, but I still remember the main Batman score. I can't remember the Begins score, it was nothing as profound. Also, if there is one main gripe I have with this film already, it's the suit. I don't care if there's a good explanation for it, it just takes that whole realistic thing way too far, so much so that he looks more like a splinter cell guy than the Batman. The one from Begins was perfect--functional and simple. I thought Nolan would have learned his lesson from the ice-skates in Batman & Robin. But yeah, so I guess what I'm saying is that while Nolan is doing very well getting everything to match up to a realistic world--the costume, the villains, the soundtrack--he is missing a certain fantastical element that would make these movies truly wonderful. With that said, I'm sure I'll be thoroughly entertained by the Dark Knight (also, I give Nolan props for incorporating a lot more comic book elements than Burton ever did..no offense, but Harvey was not black and the Joker didn't shoot Thomas and Martha Wayne).

So yeah, about the soundtrack...

good comments junq.
i guess i'll wait for the collector's edition too. and BB's score may not have been as "catchy" but it was beautiful.
and the composers said during that movie that themes would be more pronounced in the 2nd movie because they (characters) were just finding themselves in BB.

I read somewhere that they're trying to "flesh out the theme" from Batman Begins in the new soundtrack. I can only assume they mean Molossus, the song which we hear in all the Dark Knight trailers and probably the only memorable one from Begins.

there was music in Batman Begins?

Excellent news; the first score was top notch

Let's just hope they decide to make it more memorable by using the theme song from the old Batman TV show. LOL

I love it that in this age of HD replacing standard DVD, vinyl is making a comeback.

Why 4 versions?
Just overkill... I'll buy one and download anything interesting that turns up afterwards. Thats how I got the complete BB score....

Amazingly beautiful score for Batman Begins, as has been already stated, the music in The Dark Knight will be more pronounced and epic. This will be a masterpiece of a Movie as well as a Score!!

"Molossus" was really cool, but the rest of the Batman Begins soundtrack was pretty unremarkable. Honestly, I got really sick really fast of that two-note rhythm playing in the background of every scene. The Danny Elfman score is far, far more atmospheric and interesting, but I guess it wouldn't have suited the tone of Begins. Hopefully they can add some really new and colourful theme to the mix this time (kind of like how Empire Strikes Back introduced us to the Imperial March theme).

I have the first one and as someone else said in here....it's great to drive to.
