Vertigo’s iZombie Headed to The CW With Veronica Mars Creator

Based on the series created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, the site describes the series as follows: “a supernatural crime procedural that centers on a med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity. But with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories, and with the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head.”

This description differs from the source material already which had the main character Gwen partner up with a ghost, a mummy, a were-dog, and a group of vampires, but there’s still time to include them in the series. Check back for more details on iZombie as we learn them.

This announcement continues The CW’s trend of DC Comic-based shows coming off the heels of the Hourman announcement just earlier this week. In addition, the network has the Green Arrow-based Arrow, which has a spin-off based on “The Flash” in the works, along with a Wonder Woman series under the title “Amazon,” and an adaptation of the ’40s pulp character The Avenger. A few other DC Comics-based shows on the horizon are the aptly named “Gotham” at Fox from “The Mentalist” creator Bruno Heller and a new “Constantine” series on NBC from David S. Goyer and Daniel Cerone.
