DC FanDome Debuts HBO Max’s Peacemaker Teaser and Release Date

You can see him, soon enough, on HBO Max. John Cena‘s Peacemaker, so devoted to peace that he’ll commit multiple murders to make it happen, now has his own show. And in the teaser that just dropped at DC FanDome, he and his bird sidekick Eagley proceed with their aggressive plans to make war in the name of love. Yes, this is definitely a James Gunn show. While Peacemaker was a highlight of the director’s The Suicide Squad, he didn’t get a chance to really evolve beyond his surface traits. This Peacemaker trailer suggests that he may or may not ever get there.

From issues with his hardass dad (Robert Patrick, because of course the T-1000 would raise a kid like this) to his low-rent digs, Peacemaker’s life looks like no picnic. But in teaming with Vigilante and some of Waller’s team from the last movie, he may find purpose. And learn there’s no such thing as a “butt baby.” The series costars Danielle Brooks as Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Harcourt, Steve Agee as Economos, Chukwudi Iwuji as Murn, and Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith.

With the homemade-looking costumes, rockin’ soundtrack, and ultra-violence in normal-looking neighborhoods, this feels a whole lot like Gunn’s Super. And while that character was an original hero, he set the stage for all of the director’s powered-up, self-righteous doofuses that followed. But can Eagley be the next Baby Groot?

Peacemaker will hit HBO Max on January 13, 2022.
