Exclusive Preview: Amazing Spider-Man #2 Takes Spidey Back To School
By the end of Dan Slott’s Amazing Spider-Man run, Peter Parker had lost his billions and his company, but he was still relatively happy with his new job at the Daily Bugle. But it took less than an issue for the new creative team, Nick Spencer and artist Ryan Ottley to take that away from him.
Basically, the Superior Spider-Man’s actions came back to haunt Peter. When Doctor Octopus was in control of Peter’s body, he plagiarized his own work in Peter’s graduate thesis. Peter never addressed that mistake, and it’s cost him his doctorate and his gig as a Science Editor. Essentially, his good name has been ruined. At the same time, Kingpin has figured out that he can alienate Spidey from his fellow heroes by heaping praise upon him at every opportunity. And it’s working all too well, as even Spidey’s closest allies are wary of him.
So why is Peter in such a great mood? It’s because he and Mary Jane Watson are finally back together! Mephisto be damned! They may not be married anymore, but it is still their story. Also, someone from Peter’s past has vouched for him and insisted that he get another shot at his doctorate. The bad news is that it’s Dr. Curt Connors a.k.a. the Lizard! Is there a secret agenda in play?
In our exclusive preview for Amazing Spider-Man #2, nothing seems to hamper Peter’s good mood. Even D-list villains Man Mountain Marko and The Ringer know that something’s up with Spidey!
Here’s the official description from Marvel: “A revelation from the past puts Peter Parker’s job, relationships, and whole life in jeopardy while an alien invasion hits New York City!”
