O’Shea Jackson Jr. joins Legendary’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters
According to Variety, Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures‘ sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters is adding Straight Outta Compton star O’Shea Jackson Jr. to the cast, while adding that Ken Watanabe’s Monarch scientist character Dr. Ishiro Serizawa is likely to be the only original cast member to return.
Jackson will join Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, with Kyle Chandler (Super 8) and Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring) playing her parents. Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat, Krampus) is directing the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla, and co-wrote the script with Zach Shields (Krampus). No official plot details have been revealed, though Legendary previously announced the addition of several more famous Toho kaiju, including Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah.
The previous Godzilla brought in $529 million at the global box office and starred Aaron Johnson, Ken Watanabe. Elizabeth Olsen, Sally Hawkins, and Bryan Cranston.
King of the Monsters is part of the Legendary and Warner Bros.’ cinematic Monsterverse, which also includes the upcoming Kong: Skull Island, due out in theaters on March 10. Following King of the Monsters on March 22, 2019, there are plans for a Godzilla vs King Kong feature film, set for a May 29, 2020 release.
