First Look at Robin and The Joker from The LEGO Batman Movie

Warner Bros. Pictures (via USA Today) has released four new photos from The LEGO Batman Movie, offering a first look at both Robin and The Joker from the upcoming film! Check them out in the gallery below.

“The Joker sees himself on the same level as Batman, a peer, at the top of the game,” director Chris McKay says. “But Batman says that’s not the case, which sends Joker into a spiral trying to prove to Batman that he is indeed the greatest enemy.”

You’ll also notice that the version of Robin in the film, though confirmed to be Dick Grayson, sure does look a lot like Carrie Kelly’s Robin from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.

“Robin is a super-positive kid who always sees the glass as half full. Really, at the end of the day, he just wants a hug,” McKay says. “Michael brings the sweetness and honesty.”

Will Arnett reprises his role of Batman from The LEGO Movie as the voice of the titular Dark Knight, alongside Michael Cera as Robin the boy wonder, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth, Mariah Carey as Gotham’s mayor and Zach Galifianakis as The Joker.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure: The LEGO Batman Movie. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

Chris McKay is directing The LEGO Batman Movie from a script by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter creator Seth Grahame-Smith (who will direct The Flash for Warner Bros. Pictures). Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed The LEGO Movie, are producing the film along with Dan Lin.

The LEGO Batman Movie will open in theaters on February 10, 2017.
