Firefly’s Jewel Staite Joins DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

Jewel Staite joins DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

TVLine brings word that former “Firefly” and “Stargate Atlantis” star Jewel Staite has joined the cast of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Staite will play the role of Rachel Turner, who is described as “a tech genius/roboticist who exists in a future in which technology has an even firmer grip on our lives than it does today.” The outlet notes that Turner believes her inventions can help make the world a better place but that her work is “destined” to fall into Vandal Savage’s hands.

The most interesting trait about her role, however, is that her character is said to be a descendant from a long line of inventors, with a member of the DCU making up part of her family tree. What character this could be remains to be seen, though one of the titular “Legends,” Ray Palmer, is an accomplished inventor making him one of the most likely candidates.

In addition to the casting announcement, The CW has released two more character specific promos for the series profiling both Caity Lotz’s White Canary and Ciarra Renee’s Hawkgirl. Check them out in the players below!

The DC’s Legends of Tomorrow series also stars Victor Garber (“The Flash,” “Alias”), Brandon Routh (“Arrow,” Superman Returns), Arthur Darvill (“Doctor Who”) and Franz Drameh (Edge of Tomorrow), with Dominic Purcell (“The Flash,” “Prison Break”) and Wentworth Miller (“The Flash,” “Prison Break”).

Based on the characters from DC Comics, the new series hails from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Greg Berlanti (“The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Arrow”) serves as executive producer alongside Marc Guggenheim (Eli Stone, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters), Andrew Kreisberg (“The Flash,” “Warehouse 13”) and Sarah Schechter (“The Flash,” Pan).

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will premiere on The CW on Thursday, January 21.
