Captain America trailer breaks Marvel’s record with 61 million global views in 24 hours

Marvel Studios is reporting that the Captain America trailer broke Marvel’s own record with 61 million global views in its first 24 hours last week! The third installment in the Captain America franchise was launched by a surprise appearance by Captain America himself, Chris Evans, and Robert Downey Jr. on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last Tuesday, and immediately debuted online globally following its first look on air, along with three epic posters for the film. The Captain America: Civil War trailer almost doubled Marvel’s previous record, held by the first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron,  which debuted to a then record-breaking 34 million views in 2014 You can view both the trailer and posters below!

The all-time record is held by the full trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which debuted with 128 million views in a single day (16 million on TV and 112 million online).

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Joining Evans and Downey Jr. in the film are Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier alongside Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man. The film will also debut Marvel’s new Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6, 2016.
