Glenn Morshower Cast as General Sam Lane in Supergirl

Supergirl casts General Sam Lane, father of Lois and Lucy

IGN brings word that CBS has found their General Sam Lane, father of both Lois and Lucy Lane, for their new series “Supergirl” with character actor Glenn Morshower taking on the role. Morshower has a long history of playing Generals and other military officers in film and television with roles in “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD,” X-Men: First Class, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and many others.

The television version of the character is described as follows: “a powerful military lifer — and an overprotective father to both Lucy Lane and her sister, Lois. His arrival in National City stirs up trouble for Supergirl when he enlists her in a dangerous government initiative.”

In the source material, General Lane has a very public distaste for Superman, which will likely carry over to his cousin for the series. The character was also head of “Project 7734,” a defense program that would protect Earth from extraterrestrials which transformed daughter Lucy into Superwoman.

Melissa Benoist leads the cast of Supergirl as the title character with a cast that also includes Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane (sister of Lois), Iddo Goldberg as Red Tornado, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord, and, in mystery roles, Dean Cain and Helen Slater.

Supergirl will premiere Monday, October 26 at a special time (8:30-9:30pm) before it moves to its regular time slot on Monday, November 2 from 8:00-9:00pm.
