FOX Continues to Pursue X-Men Television Series

Are we getting an X-Men television series?

Back in January, it was revealed that FOX was looking to expand their X-Men franchise from solely feature films into television as well. Now, following the FOX TCA presentation, Fox Television Group chairman and CEO Dana Walden says they’re still pursuing the deal for what they hope will be a “long-running” series.

“[For] X-Men, we’re in negotiations with Marvel. We’re hopeful we’ll be able to announce something soon. We’re not closed on a deal yet but it’s something we’re definitely pursuing,” Walden tells The Hollywood Reporter. “The characters from the X-Men franchise are with Fox on the feature side so we won’t be including Marvel characters that are at ABC with Disney. This will be exclusively the franchise as it has existed at Fox.”

“24” producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto are developing the live-action series with screenwriters Patrick McKay and JD Payne penning the pilot episode. All four will share the “Created by” credit with Katz and Coto set to serve as showrunners.

Though things are slow moving on the television side, the feature side of “X-Men” has never been bigger. Currently the spin-off film Deadpool is set for release February 12, 2016 with X-Men: Apocalypse debuting that summer on May 27. The Channing Tatum-starring Gambit is scheduled for October 7, 2016 with Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine film set to debut March 3, 2017. A New Mutants spin-off is also in development with The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone at the helm, though no release date has been set.
