Sony Shuffles Releases for Ghostbusters, Uncharted, Adds Dates for The Dark Tower, Resident Evil 6

Sony has set new release dates for 2016 and 2017

Sony has announced a big slate for the next two years, and with it comes some reshuffling of previously-announced release dates. You can read the full announcement by clicking here.

The first change is Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, which stars Kristen Wiig as “Erin Gilbert,” Kate McKinnon as “Jillian Holtzmann,” Melissa McCarthy as “Abby Yates” and Leslie Jones as “Patty Tolan,” moving up one week from its July 22, 2016 release to July 15, 2016.

Another shift is the video game adaptation Uncharted. The Seth Gordon-directed film, which is currently being scripted by Academy Award winner Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), was previously set for June 10, 2016 and has now been pushed to June 30, 2017.

Two new dates have been added to the mix though, with the long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter being added to the calendar.

Set to be directed by Swedish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair), The Dark Tower is scheduled for release on January 13, 2017. Arcel re-wrote the previous draft which had been penned by Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2).

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, his fourth in the franchise, and sees the return of his wife Milla Jovovich as lead protagonist Alice in addition to Wentworth Miller and Ali Larter as Chris and Claire Redfield. The film is set to begin production this month for a January 27, 2017 release.
