Deadline is reporting that veteran character actor Cliff Curtis will take the lead role in AMC’s “The Walking Dead” companion series.
New Zealander Curtis is recognizable for a wide range of supporting roles, including an FBI agent in Live Free or Die Hard, an astronaut in Sunshine, and an array of criminals in films like Training Day, Colombiana, Blow and Bringing Out the Dead. Although he plays a wide range of ethnicities, his Māori roles include Whale Rider, Once Were Warriors and The Piano.
Curtis joins the previously-announced Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey in the new series, also known as “Cobalt,” which revolves around a male divorced teacher (Curtis) and a female guidance counselor.
Co-created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, the series will take place in the same zombie apocalypse depicted in “The Walking Dead” albeit in a different location and potentially at a different point in time. Erickson will serve as the showrunner for the new series which will be executive produced by Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert. Adam Davidson will direct the series.
