All last week, Marvel Comics teased a trip back to a previous event series at the house of ideas from Civil War to Planet Hulk and Armor Wars, to changes on old names like Years of Future Past, and even a mash up of Age of Ultron Vs. Marvel Zombies. Now they’re back with one more teaser (via IGN), this time a return to the 2005 mini-series House of M.
Written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Olivier Coipel, House of M focused on an alternate timeline, created by the Scarlet Witch, where Mutants became the top species on the planet and hunted down the humans. The event culminated in a return to the “616 Earth” and with Scarlet Witch uttering those famous words “No More Mutants,” the effects of which are still being felt in Marvel’s X-Men titles today.
How does all of this fit together? The running theory is that each of these event teasers will spin out of the recently-announced Secret Wars title. Secret Wars will officially begin after “Time Runs Out” in the current run of The Avengers/New Avengers, an event that has been teased now for months by Marvel. Where does House of M fit into the grand scheme of the returning events?
