Mission: Impossible 5 Adds Video Game Scribe Will Staples

Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible 5 has scored a new screenwriter in video game scribe Will Staples (“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3”). The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that Staples will rewrite the existing draft by Iron Man 3‘s Drew Pearce.

Following a worldwide gross of $694.7 million for the franchise’s most recent entry, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions recently signed leading man Tom Cruise to reprise the role of Ethan Hunt and to produce.

The project will be produced by Cruise through Tom Cruise Productions, Paramount and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, who served as producers on previous films in the hit series. Skydance Productions, who served as co-financers and executive producers of the last installment, will work closely with the team in the development and production process.

Among Staples’ in-development projects as a screenwriter are Ben Affleck’s Blood and Treasure and King of Heists, a crime drama that has Jeremy Renner attached to star.

Mission: Impossible 5 hits theaters December 25, 2015.
