Comics: Superman Unchained Coming this Summer!

Back at New York Comic Con, the upcoming Scott Snyder/Jim Lee Superman comic was officially announced, but even then the title wasn’t given. Since then (and even before) the comic has been referred to as “Man of Steel,” but USA Today has confirmed that the title for the comic is actually…”Superman Unchained.”

Just in time for Superman’s 75th birthday, the new series will debut on Wednesday June 12 just two days before the release of Warner Bros.’ upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel. Readers will get their first look at the new series in a special for this year’s “Free Comic Book Day.” Snyder will also be writing back-up stories at the end of each issue with artist Dustin Nguyen.

“The way to approach a character as iconic as him,” said Snyder, “is you just come at it from a standpoint of what you love the most about the character, and then write a story that explores that, tear it down and build it back up.”

“I know conceptually why he admires Lois Lane, but then when you’re writing them and you feel the chemistry between them and it comes to life on the page, it’s always these little bursts of surprises that have been a joy to discover with him.”

“The energy we’re bringing to the story and that ‘Hey, we can add new stuff to the canon’ kind of attitude will serve us well,” Lee says.
