US Olympic Luge Team Will Wear Outfits Based on Valiant Comics’ X-O Manowar

Mark this as one of the most surprising news stories of the week. The United States Olympic Luge team has officially been sponsored by comic book publisher Valiant Comics. Valiant Comics has reportedly made a significant contribution to the team and has designed their uniforms to resemble their character X-O Manowar. The team will debut their comic inspired uniforms next month at the Luge World Cup in Austria, but the team will wear them for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia.

You can see the luge team’s marketing director talk about the new uniforms below on Wall Street Journal Live (via Geek Rust).

X-O Manowar was created by Jim Shooter, Bob Layton, and Jon Hartz in 1992. The character is a time displaced warrior named Aric that wears the sentient X-O Manowar armor. Valiant recently relaunched the character in an all new ongoing series.
