UPDATE: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey to Receive Extended Blu-ray Release

UPDATE: We’ve received an update from Warner Home Video saying that the calendar listing was an error and the “Extended Edition” has not been confirmed yet. The statement reads:

“In the recently distributed calendar included in the Warner Bros. 90th Anniversary press kit, there was an erroneous mention of an Extended Edition release for The Hobbit film. This product has not been confirmed yet and we apologize for any confusion.”

We have updated the calendar below to reflect the change. The original item follows…

Although it shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise to fans of Peter Jackson who, in the past, has shown quite a penchant for extended home video versions of his films, Movies.com has spotted an entry on an upcoming calendar of planned Warner Bros. Home Entertainment 2013 releases that lists a The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition Blu-ray release for next year’s fourth quarter.

The first film in the planned trilogy is set to hit theaters in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on December 14 with a cast that includes Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Evangeline Lilly, Andy Serkis and many, many more.

The Extended Edition of the first film will likely be on store shelves just prior to the December 13, 2013 theatrical release of the second chapter, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

You can check out the full calendar below which also includes a number of other catalog treasures from the studio, celebrating its 90th Anniversary in 2013.
