Comics: The Fantastic Four & FF Revealed

When the teasers for Matt Fraction’s new Fantastic Four comics came about last week, one of them was pretty obvious and the other a little less. We all guessed correctly that the “Family” teaser was simply about the Fantastic Four and many assumed that the “Extended” teaser was for a continuation of the Future Foundation. We were right, but also wrong.

It seems USA Today couldn’t wait to share their interview and look at Fraction’s new books and posted them today.

Fraction says his new Fantastic Four series will focus on Reed Richard, Sue Storm, their two kids Franklin and Valeria, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm (as expected) but the plot is a little different. The hero team will be absent from the Marvel Universe for what they perceive as a year but will only be four minutes to the rest of the heroes in the Marvel U. During their year long ‘road trip,’ the team and family will be going around space and time for an extensive history lesson.

“If they’re studying ancient Rome, then by God let’s go have lunch with Caesar on the Ides of March. If they’re looking at the Big Bang, they’re going to watch it from the front row,” says Fraction.

The Future Foundation comic, on the other hand, will be quite different. With art by Mike Allred, this comic will focus on Ant-Man (Scott Lang), She-Hulk, Medusa of the Inhumans, and Miss Thing (and all new character clad with Thing like armor). The FF are assembled to watch the door that the Fantastic Four go through on their time journey and not everything does as planned.

Ant-Man and his group stand guard for the four minutes, but nothing happens. Three weeks later, a one-eyed, one-legged, long-haired, half-insane, bearded Johnny Storm walks through the time gateway, shuts it behind him and says, “We can never open this door again.”

Both new series start this November.
