The Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh

As reported last night, The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to start filming in Pittsburgh through August 20th. Today, Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale greeted the city with a special press conference.

"It's a very beautiful city on a very impressive scale and that hasn't lost its human scale," Nolan is quoted as having said at Pittsburgh Businesstimes,"That is very impressive and very hard to find… When you're making a large-scale action film that has to showcase the vitality and size of a large American city but also involves a certain amount of disruption to that city in order to make the action credible on screen" there needs to be a lot of cooperation from that city."

The article goes on to say that, while Pittsburgh will be standing in as Gotham City, some of the famous landmarks that will remain include Heinz Field and Carnegie Mellon University. The former will be featured in a football game scene that is said to include a large crowd. There is also shooting scheduled to occur at a home in Lawrenceville.

Another minor detail that has been confirmed is that we'll be seeing Gotham City in the winter. Part of the shoot includes staging fake snowfall in the Downtown area.

The Dark Knight Rises will hit theaters on July 20, 2012.
