RIP Jackie Cooper

Cooper, who also served with distinction in World War II, began a career as a child actor and remains the youngest performer ever nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his part in 1931’s Skippy. That film, incidentally, remains to this day the only time a comic adaptation has been nominated for Best Picture.

Between his successful childhood career and 1978’s Superman, Cooper worked in film and on television both in front of and behind the camera, directing dozens of different TV shows.

Following his final appearance as Perry White in 1987’s Superman IV, Cooper directed episodes of the subsequent television spinoff, “The Adventures of Superboy”.

Cooper is survived by two sons.
