Jason Statham is in talks to star in the Taylor Hackford-directed thriller Parker, at Sierra/Affinity, Incentive Filmed Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. The script was written by John J. McLaughlin, who co-wrote Black Swan.
Variety says the film, based on the book series by Donald Westlake, "revolves around a thief who, though at times is forced to be a killer, still lives by a code of honor that includes never stealing money from people who need it. His word is his bond, and if he is crossed he will strike back relentlessly."
Hackford will produce along with Steven Chasman, Les Alexander, Sidney Kimmel and Jonathan Mitchell.
Though the Parker books date back to the early 1960′s, there has been a renewed interest in the character thanks to recently released graphic adaptations by Darwyn Cooke. The Hunter, released in 2009 was followed by The Outfit, released late last year. Cooke has said that he plans to adapt two more of the Westlake books in the next few years.
