New Kull Movie in the Works

Paradox Entertainment's CEO Fredrik Malmberg told Fantasy.fr that a new "Kull" movie is in the works. Here is the translated article, courtesy of the site:

Paradox Entertainment is currently working on a new movie adaptation for Kull the Conqueror.

Fredrik Malmberg, Paradox Entertainment's CEO, used the occasion of an exclusive interview to reveal his company was working on a new Kull movie.

Fredrik Malmberg also told us about Conan and other ongoing adaptations. You'll hear of it soon.

Robert Ervin Howard created a hero called Kull in 1929 for the Weird Tales magazine. Howard would draw some inspiration from this character to create Conan, but he dwells in an era predating the cimmerian's one.

Native to Atlantis, Kull grows up with his family in Tiger Valley until a flood wipe his clan out. Another clan bring him up, but he stands up for a woman destined to burn alive and ends up banned from Atlantis. He sails for the continent and take up the mercenary way. He'll become king, just as Conan will do thousands of years later. Under his influence, Valusia ends up as the most powerful kingdom of the time.

As a reminder, in 1997, Kull made an appearance on screen in the less than convincing Kull the Conqueror, directed by John Nicolella and played by Kevin Sorbo.

MONKEYPORN...NO with the exception of red sonja, dark horse owns the rights to most of Robert Howards prop/ Kane, Kull, and conan, i dont know why dynamite has the rights to sonja and not dark horse

I have every issue of Conan the barbarian, savage sword, solomon kane, Kull (marvel and darkhorse) and red sonja, and I liked the first kull movie, but would have taken the heavy metal sound track out...there is no bigger metal head then me but fantasty sword and sorcery movies require a orchestra

Right, yeah, let's start rehashing heroes with next to no fanbase. What is this, the mid-1990s all over again?

First we get Raimi doing his carp version of The Shadow, then we have The Phantom coming back, and now we have Kull The Conquerer? What Kevin Sorbo didn't act badly enough to destroy the name of Kull that they want to finally shove all the nails into the coffin at once with this pathetic attempt at a remake?

@ matthooper -- Agreed. This does sound like it was written by Hulk.

That first Kull movie was the same as that Hercules series. The exact same type of humor they used in hurcules and Xena.

Oh Kull not Krull, too bad.

I don't know why some people complain and b***ch about the first Kull film? The first film was good. What was so disappointing about it? You had Kevin Sorbo, Tia Carrere, Litefoot, Thomas Ian Griffin, Harvey Firestine (comic relief). Best line in the film:

Kull: "The fate of my kingdom will be found within a kiss!"

A reboot or remake of this will make the first film look better.

It's funny, because I didn't think anyone owned the rights to Conan, Kull or Red Sonja, as of 2008. The original stories are now in the public domain. The only thing Dark Horse could own is the trademarks, CONAN and KULL. They might also own the copyright over later visual depictions of the characters, that were distinctive beyond the descriptions in the books, but the appearance of characters in movies are usually redesigned anyway. So Dark Horse only has rights to comic trademarks and comic book stories. And as Dark Horse doesn't make movies, they probably only have the comic trademarks. Am I wrong?

Kull...seriously? KULL???? This is coming straight from the why bother department.
Make something good and that people want to see!!!

Just remember, every 20 years the fashions come back... I wouldn't be so amazed if suddenly everybody it's dancing "La Macarena" once again. In two years or so will be about time

@ Fletch from Georgia - I was thinking Krull when I came to this thread and got confused about all the Kevin Sorbo talk

There are plans for a new Doc Savage movie.

@ Khemik@l

No,you am wrong! Hulk no write.hulk not read good! hahahah!

Posted by: Taranaich on November 23, 2009 at 11:24:44

senorashish: The Kull stories have plenty of fans over at the Conan forums, and the books are currently in print. Certainly they're more popular than The Shadow or The Phantom at this moment in time.

Finally, what indication do you have that this will be a "remake" in the first place? The 1997 film had nothing to do with the stories apart from one or two stolen names.

The Kull stories are among the most genre-defining in all of fantasy, and they deserve a second chance on the big screen. Unless you'd rather go for "sure hits" with "huge fanbases", I'd say this movie isn't for you in the first place, and that your time would be better spent supporting the films you want to see instead of criticizing those you don't.

Kull reminds me of Conan! They should get Arnold the Govenator to star this movie!

Get Arnold!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Joseph Gilbert Thompson on December 2, 2009 at 20:50:39

Get Arnold-lets forget Arnold ok.Ged out.Ged out of hear.Fock yu azhole.Ok as a Terminator, but Conan-forget those movies-I try to.Besides crossover to freaking Marvel/DC Comic crap for idiots.Besides someone else doing a Conan and Solomon Kane movies is not happening anymore ?Tia Carrere suck in the Kull. She ripped Darth Vaders lines badly and acted drunken hooker.Does Marvel comics still own the comic rights to this? No,but for years, they acted as if they created Conan,Kull,Solomon Kane,Red Sonja and the rest.Howard was some dead, who appeared somewhere the front page.
