McMahon, Borgnine, Dreyfuss and Cox Join Red
November 13, 2009
Julian McMahon ("Fantastic Four" films), Ernest Borgnine, Richard Dreyfuss and Brian Cox (X2: X-Men United) are in negotiations to join Red, Summit's adaptation of the Wildstorm/DC Comics miniseries being directed by Robert Schwentke.
"Red" was originally written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hamner. The three-book series, published in 2003 and 2004, tells the story of a former black-ops CIA agent now living a quiet life in retirement until the day a high-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him.
McMahon would play a Vice President with a dark side who is at the center of a shadow conspiracy. Borgnine will play the keeper of the CIA's darkest records, while Dreyfuss will be a wealthy man who builds a fortune out of lucrative government contracts. Cox is a former Cold War spy and nemesis of Willis.
The cast also includes Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John C. Reilly and Mary Louise Parker.
Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing, while DC's Gregory Noveck executive produces with Jake Myers. Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the script. The film is scheduled to begin shooting early next year.

ERNEST BORGNINE? BRUCE WILLIS? BRIAN COX?
I'm going to get my ticket now!

Oh crap...Never mind...Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is producing. He's an azzhole. I feel bad for this awesome cast being thrust in to such a terrible movie.

I can't believe Borgnine is still alive!

Julian McMahon playing "a Vice President with a dark side who is at the center of a shadow conspiracy"...? Sounds like he's playing the same character from Fantastic Four, only probably less metrosexual

Borgnine? Cox? Dreyfuss? Mirren? Freeman? Willis?
What`s the age average of this movie?
65? 85?
They're only hiring dinosaurs? It's a blockbuster movie for the summer? Yeah, sure.
I can see all the teenagers in line to buy tickets for "Jurassic Red".

WOW! This is one amazing cast! DC sure knows how to cast their films. All chock-full of stars! GO DC! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF LAME MARVEL AND THEIR LAME "EVERYMAN" SUPERNERDS!
@ Wyngarde
I'm sure no one is forcing this cast to be a part of this movie. And I'm sure they at least read the script before signing on three months of their life to filming this project.
@ filmstu2005
No, I think McMahon will be playing **** Cheney.

It's amazing that a Wildstorm title could garner such great talent. What are they doing right that DC's mainstream properties aren't?
Posted by: senorashish on November 13, 2009 at 07:08:47
@ Red Mask
Good stories always attract big casts with great talent. I'm sure Green Lantern will follow. And as far as the other big leaguers of DC go (i.e. Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, etc.), they'll be coming to the big screen after people sort out what works on the pages of a comic book and what doesn't work on screen (i.e. Wonder Woman's star spangled panties, etc.).

@elbichoemboscado Yeah, it's terrible to hire Oscar winning ACTORS instead of the flavor of the minute tabloid fodder.

All we need now is Abe Vigoda, and the casting is complete.

I hope the movie can live up to it's great ensemble. And also, I'm glad I'm not the only one surprised that Ernest Borgnine is still alive.

This sounds like a story I've already seem 10 times before. Great cast though, so it must have something going for it.

What an amazing case this film is getting! The cast alone has me intrigued!

There's been a mix up. This is actually the call sheet for SUNSHINE BOYS 2-Panama Red--ML Parker sells dope to seniors for medicinal purposes while banging the on staff shrink-Bruce Willis.

What's with Morgan Freeman? Is he in a running contest with Samuel L. Jackson to be in the most comic book movies? Ryan Reynolds is probably in third place behind them, but way back.

ERNEST BOURGNINE???? He was in the movie SUPER SNOOPER of SUPER FUZZ with Terence Hill. : )
Ha Ha Ha, What an interesting cast!
I will see it.
Posted by: memo on November 13, 2009 at 19:20:13
Sorry, is Bourgnine.

Sounds good. I've never read the comic but the plot sounds interesting. The cast sounds good let's hope the script is good. Now only if Warren Ellis can convince the stuidos to make a movie about the "Ocean" mini-series from a few years back.....
Posted by: troll827 on November 13, 2009 at 20:05:12
And please dear Lord, keep Ryan Reynolds from somehow getting involved. I didn't think he did very well as Deadpool and I'm cringing to see how he butchers Green Lantern. At least there may be some hope for the Captain Marvel movie if it happens.
