Official Kick-Ass Site Launched, Trailer Coming!

Lionsgate has brought online the official website for the Matthew Vaughn-directed comic book adaptation Kick-Ass at IAmKick-Ass.com. The site features a Flash intro and then gives you a peek at the new character posters combined. There you will also notice that the site is counting down to the trailer debut on MySpace.

Opening April 16th, Kick-Ass tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick-Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There's only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.

His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage).

The film is based on the groundbreaking, best-selling comic by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.

I'm looking forward to this. The books are great (when they come out), the posters look fantastic and the little bit I've seen on YouTube looked spot on.

At long last, my comic book creation comes to life! This is a golden moment for me

I can;t contain my excitement! Matthew Vaughn rocks!

Actually looks like it's being done right. I'm sold. Just hope the story doesn't get dumb like Wanted.

My only concern is marketing. Advertisers are still a very twitchy lot.

"Zack & Miri Make a Porno" got shortened to "Zack & Miri" in primetime & usually only had its full title on display after 9pm or 10pm.

Similarly, "Zombieland" had its "Nut up or shut up." line replaced with a more PG friendly version for the primetime audiences.

I wonder how "Kick-Ass" will have its title bastardized by the ad guys. Maybe the title logo, but no voice over using the actual word "ass" being spoken. Maybe that & some stupid Kick-@$$ sort of print. Y'know, these days, anything is possible. People are way too PC.

Like I sad in the other thread, based one what I've seen of Chloe Moretz's Mindy/Hit-Girl performance, I'm totally in for this flick. It looks like it'll be a blast.

As far as "Wanted" goes.... If you can, somehow, forget about the comic, the actual movie itself is pretty good. It replays well. Now, if you compare it to the comic, you'll have a serious case of WTF-itis. The two are nothing alike. On its own, though, the movie is solid. (Loom of Fate BS aside.)

Yeah, I saw Chloe Moretz in 500 Days of Summer. She's got spunk.

Don't they say Kick-ass on TV? I don't think it will be a problem.

Crap films like this are going to make it harder for REAL comic films to do well in the future. Quit clogging up the cinema with two year old cheese and leave the silver screen for Marvel and DC characters only. The fastest way to cripple the genre is for crap like this to flood the market.

Posted by: Fanboiii on November 6, 2009 at 15:02:33

Um, Rob this movie is in the same vein as Watchmen.

Not sure if thats a pro or a con - Fanboii.....

I saw a screening of the movie last night in Arclight Hollywood, not gonna reveal much about the film. But it was Amazing! I haven't felt that great about a movie since The Dark Knight. This movie is great and Nic Cage actually does a great job lol. this movie is WORTH checking out, and me waiting in line for 8 hours to see it lol.

i am in no way trying to troll but...I AM SICK TO DEATH OF HEARING ABOUT THIS...and mark miller in general. It just seems theyre really scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Hollywood and the news sights.

i would really like some Captain America or Green Lantern updates please.

Posted by: Fanboiii on November 6, 2009 at 19:43:38

I never understood the Nic Cage hate trend. Can't really blame him for bad movies he was in. Actors have to work and he isn't in demand like he used to be. Doesn't mean he's a bad actor.

Anyway after a summer of nothing but Wolverfox, I can't wait for superhero movies that actually have a comic book feel.

Looking better and better. I hope it doesn't dissapoint.

I'd still rather see an Aquaman novie.

Everyone who has doubts about this movie, you should cause will they show the violent aspect of the movie, will the water it down just to get some attention or a better rating? Well let me say this.....I saw 5 short clips of this movie at the Chicago Wizard World Comic-Con in Auguest, It was a Mark Millar panel and i must say this movie will be crazy good. Is Mark Millar stuck on himself.....yes and does he have a man crush on himself.......yes. but this movie will be good!

@Rob
This is a Marvel comics character. Kick-Ass debuted in Icon, which is a subsidiary of Marvel, similar to their MAX imprint. Get your facts straight.

The countdown for me reads 13 days

Posted by: Frank Miller on November 9, 2009 at 09:44:38

Hopefully your Kick Ass movie will be a success Mark, better than my piece of crap "The Spirit"

Posted by: dandman on November 9, 2009 at 13:26:18

@ "Frank Miller"

The Spirit was MUCH better than Wanted, at least it was funny. I really don't care about anything that Millar writes, he's a hack.
