Warren Ellis' Black Summer to Get Adapted
November 1, 2009
Vigilante Entertainment is launching operations by developing Warren Ellis' comic book series "Black Summer" with Ryne Pearson (Knowing) attached to write the screenplay, reports Variety.
"Black Summer," published by Avatar Press in 2007, centers on superhero team the Seven Guns, a group of scientist-adventurers who modified their own bodies for street-fighting in order to take back their West Coast city from a corrupt police force, criminal local government and rapacious private security forces.
Vigilante is headed by Hicham Benkirane, former head of audiovisual development at French comicbook publisher Les Humanoides Associes.

This was an excellent read. A really good take on the whole Superhero genre.
It is also the first of a trilogy of mini series that approach superhero comics from a different stance.
Black Summer- Self enhanced superhumans against corrupt government.
No Hero- Organization chemically enhances people who in reality are unknowingly helping one person control human destiny and rule the world.
Supergods- This one looks at Superhero's as god like figures and how that effects the world.
All would make for crazy films

This has the potential of being an entertaining movie! I really enjoyed the comic but I'm not so sure how the anti-government tones of the book will come across on the screen.

As far as the Dredd-lookalike comment goes, try looking at more than that cover. The helmet has similarities, but aside from that, the character looks nothing like him.
Anyway, I read Black Summer when it originally came out, and I thought it was OK. Like someone else said, it has some real potential though. Some really, really violent potential...

I think the premise sounds pretty interesting. I'd give it a shot!

This was a really great comic but seriously? I really think this one should be left to ink and paper...

I hope they start off by killing the prez like they do in the book. I also think patrick duffy should play Tom Noir.

i agree with Jere: Master of the Universe, this is a great read but i don't know if they should make a movie. I liked for some comics to just stay comics.

I'm more worried about the gore. One of the things I loved about the comic was the "in your face" blood and guts... it just won't happen on screen...
