Sony Acquiring He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
Source:Variety, The Hollywood Reporter

Just weeks after the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie left Warner Bros. Pictures, Mattel is finalizing a deal with Columbia Pictures. Escape Artists will produce the project.

Sony and Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will now start developing the project from scratch. John Stevenson had been attached to direct but is no longer attached.

In the big screen adaptation of the signature Mattel toy line, He-Man is a brawny prince who transforms into a warrior who becomes the last hope for a magical land called Eternia, which is being ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor.

Hopefully this happens I remember growing up on the 80's movie, funny but they need to make it an epic, the cartoon was hilarious, the new toon was ok. Let's hope it doesn't become too corny.

Casting will be hella tricky. Sam Worrington or maybe the Rock one a short list of possible He-Men.

Hugo Weaving or Robert Knepper as Skeletor.

Gerald Butler as ManaWar.

Kiera Knightley as Tela

Cate Blanchet as the Sorceress

Angelina Jolie as Evilynn

Did someone seriously just put both Sam Worthington, and The Rock, on a short list to play the same character?

If only Peter Jackson would direct this...

If the right person gets ahold of this property it could be amazing, it could just as easily be a train-wreck though

Sony will not disappoint. They now have the POWER.

Skeletor in (modern) live action will be nothing but awesome. So I don't care what happens... DO IT.

I think this deal will work out better than WB. WB always seems distracted and reluctant to put a movie on the screen. They delay...money crunch...delay...money crunch...look out the window for clear skies...and finally after sitting on the rights for years ask itself if it would be the right time to make it.

Battle-Cat's armour is maroon, not purple, as it is in that pic. Sorry, I just don't think purple and green go together that well.

Also, thank the movie gods this property didn't go to FOX

That pic above is sick! Battlecat looks badass! I hope this project is half as cool as that pic by Nebezial.

i agree if only Peter jackson would be interesed in directing this...it could be wonderfull!

peter jackson would be awesome...but he is a busy man and probably would have to wait years and years for this movie. No thanks I will take second best if it means seeing it quicker.

Who is second best btw?

The Magic vs. Technology story is totally wrong, wrong, wrong. Skeletor and Evil Lyn are all about magic, thats what they use to battle He-Man, hello?!?! The picture is freaking awesome by the way, but this bull-crap story needs to go. For real.
