Damn, I just bought this on Blu-Ray.

OH the "Ultimate" cut, what's next the 10 disc "Most Awesomest" cut for $526.23? I'll pass on this shisnest.

This is exactly why I held off buying it on DVD. Just think of it like the Lord of the Rings series, where the theatrical version makes it out first, followed months later by the Extended Edition, which is the complete movie.

Though I must say, it really is pretty lame to release the "director's cut" as the first DVD release... but they know people will pour their wallets out for it.

This should be good.
I, for one, liked the movie. I thought it was a bit 'adult' at times, way more than the original graphic novel (comics), but was amazed at how well Snyder stayed to the source material. The costumes, sets, cast were all amazing. I do understand how some didn't care for the movie due to its length and slow-going, but for all of us geeks that read the comics, we were in heaven. My biggest complaint was that Snyder went over-board with the adult-ness of the movie. Some will say I'm a prude, but c'mon - he took a two panel sex scene and made it into a five minute romp that will forever change the way I hear the 'Hallelujia Chorus'. It just wasn't needed and immediately canceled out a HUGE teen audience that would have paid the money to see this film. You can disagree, but last I looked, according to other 'hero' movies, this one flopped. And it SHOULDN'T have, it was too good!

I'm with Sayera, they annouced that they would release these like this a while ago, so I waited for the Black Freighter. This should be sweet.

YES!!!!!

This is the reason why I haven't purchased the Director's cut as of yet also and how I wished the realsesed movie would've been.

Cool beans. Haven't bought the DVD yet because I read that this was coming out. What's up with the pirate theme? I know it's because of the Black Freighter but wouldn't the smiley be more appropriate. So would have been a squid ending! ;) However, I read that this set would have "Tales" and "Hood" included as separates. Oh well. Guess that I still need to get a regular version on DVD if I want an original theatrical copy instead of a digital one. "Hey guys! Wanna watch 'Watchmen'? Let me get my laptop! 'K?!" Still happy! Loved the film with or without squid...

They said this was coming out when the last one did. Pay attention you whiney losers.

Zack Snyder says that this is a cash grab and the Director's Cut is his ideal version, so I took him at his word and grabbed the director's cut. After seeing both the director's cut and tales of the black freighter, I can't see how Black Freighter could be effectively cut into the film without feeling tacked on.

Yeah, that's nice.

Posted by: prozac-pedro on September 23, 2009 at 12:40:42

of course!!!

Posted by: DeadFox on September 23, 2009 at 12:42:34

That is packed!! I'll get this version.

Posted by: Enrico on September 23, 2009 at 12:48:32

It´s funny that there says "THE COMPLETE STORY, AS IT WAS MEANT TO BE SEEN". Then I´d like to ask Warner why wasn´t this the teatrical cut???

Posted by: RustyMuffler on September 23, 2009 at 12:49:56

This was supposed to be a single disc release for $20-$25. Zack said this himself in interviews back when the original DVD was coming out. Now WB goes and sticks all that other **** in there which most have already purchased. Now Zack has said that this is nothing more than a cash grab on WB's part and that his preferred version of the film is the Director's Cut. I will get a rip of this to watch this cut and pick up the one SINGLE disc in this set that is different in a used bin at some point down the road. WB is completely balls up if they think that people are going to shell out $50-$60 for this thing. LMAO!

And where is the edition that comes bundled with the PS3 game FFS!?!?

Posted by: Tyler on September 23, 2009 at 13:01:50

ITs the same thing! all it has extra is black freighter and the motion comic. all the special features are the same, save the new commentary. waste of my money

Posted by: Pat on September 23, 2009 at 13:05:04

No number of cuts or special editions will fix the numerous problems inherent in the original.

Posted by: nuketheunicorns on September 23, 2009 at 13:09:41

definitely gonna be picking up the Blu-Ray version of this. say what you will about all the things the movie ****ed up - fact is, it was still insanely entertaining and ****ing beautiful to look at.

Posted by: Antonio on September 23, 2009 at 13:10:33

Tales of the Black Freighter was HORRIBLE, taking it out was the best decision they made when turning Watchmen into a movie. This is a definite no-buy for me.

Posted by: Shroud462 on September 23, 2009 at 13:11:46

thats why i didn't buy the first release, they had been saying this was coming out.

Posted by: Stevil on September 23, 2009 at 13:11:53

Not liking the cover at all, you can't replace the smiley face. It just looks wrong.

Posted by: fanboy420 on September 23, 2009 at 13:45:17

i'm actually glad i got my directors cut stolen...i'm gettin this s@!t.....!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Anti-Venom on September 23, 2009 at 14:01:38

I think it's silly to buy this over the Directors Cut. Snyder himself said that this isn't a legit cut of the film. It's just an experiment.

I own the DC, and I like it enough to want to own this too. But if I had to choose one, I'd choose the DC.

The cover art for the Ultimate Edition SUCKS!

Posted by: gfh on September 23, 2009 at 14:05:46

are people really complaining about something that is genuinely a great box set and not just a shameless reissue? Its not our fault if you're too ****ing retarded to think there wouldn't be any further releases of the flick less than six months after the original release.
