Warner Bros. Pictures has set Guy Ritchie to direct Lobo, a live action adaptation of the DC Comics title about an alien interstellar bounty hunter, reports Variety.

Don Payne wrote the most recent script draft, and Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona will produce. The film is a co-production between Silver Pictures and Weed Road.

In the film, says the trade, Lobo will be a seven-foot tall, blue(gray)-skinned, indestructible and heavily muscled anti-hero who drives a pimped out motorcycle, and lands on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc. Lobo teams with a small town teenaged girl to stop the creatures.

Production on Lobo begins early next year. The studio is aiming for a PG-13 rating.

I agree, PG13 & LOBO just dont sound right? Dont worry, this will go the way of the JLA Movie

Posted by: Bhozar on September 2, 2009 at 16:06:55

FAIL!

What on earth are they thinking teaming him up with a teenage girl and making it PG-13? So it's really going to be nothing like the comic book character its based on.

Posted by: MP on September 2, 2009 at 16:07:08

So freaking LOBO gets a movie BUT Superman Can't? What?? Ugh!

Unbelievable

Posted by: senorashish on September 2, 2009 at 16:07:19

YES! DC COMICS IS ON A ROLL! "JONAH HEX," "DEADMAN," "THE LOSERS," "RED," AND NOW "LOBO"! OH, AND LET'S NOT FORGET "GREEN LANTERN"!

*head explodes*

And why the hell are people complaining about the PG-13 rating? Lobo was never an "adult" comic book in any sense of the word. There were no F-words, no nudity, just sexual suggestiveness and over-the-top cartoony violence. So PG-13 sounds about right. And people can make a hard PG-13 as we have seen in recent years.

I'm beginning to think that comic nerds only want R-rated comic book movies so that they could brag to their kiddie friends that they got to see an R-rated movie based on a comic book character, thus, elevating their status in their clique and making them into the "cool kid" on campus. I'm sure this is why kids want non-R-rated-material comic books to get perverted into an R-rated movie. I mean, people still want an R-rated Batman movie? Why?! Not a single Batman comic would qualify as an R-rating. Not a single one.

And add the fact that Guy Richie has only done two good movies...

all you need is hulk hogan and christopher loyd and it will be suburban commando all over again

Perfect match. Plus it finally seems that WB has something original, besides Batman, that they can toy with. Pretty much any other character that DC has Marvel already made their clone movie to counter....maybe except for WW.

DC seems to be going for their more obscure characters instead of ones even non comic readers would probably know. not that its a bad thing but i guess we will see how it works out for them

i'm really not feeling the teenage sidekick. why not use the bailbond lady?

.... i dunno if i should cry or laugh out loud.

get ready for a movie full of slow motion fight scenes

Posted by: www.aaronknelson.com on September 2, 2009 at 16:20:05

Fairly weak news. Hopefully it is a joke or bullshiiiittttt. Unless they go over the top with it. I can't really think of anything to compare it to, how I see it, that is. Maybe the gooshy sloppy violence of Sin City mixed with ROGER RABBIT and SPACEBALLS.

Actually, that would be just fine.

Somebody above said that LOBO was never an R-rating. That is correct. Always violent but cartoony. Some cool stories, though. Vs. Superman, Deadman possessed him, Lobocop was good, Lobo's Back is a classic. He even met up with Darkseid once. Pretty funny stuff.

Posted by: senorashish on September 2, 2009 at 16:20:39

HULK HOGAN PAINTED WHITE/BLUE! WHO'S WITH ME?!

@ Darkseid

It's not about how well the characters are known to the world, it's whether or not their stories deserve to be told and are warranting of a film adapatation. Fortunately, for DC, they rely more upon story and character and can easily translate this material to the screen... if the right people are involved in the production of the film, of course.

As someone who knows of Lobo but is by no means a purist I can see this working if they use Hellboy as a model. It all depends on the tone. Considering Lobo used alien slang to swear, so that can stay. He fights aliens so the violence can be aggressive without going into a higher rating (think Wolverine vs Lady Deathstrike in X2) and just because he teams up with a teenage girl doesn't mean he has to like it (could end up with a Leon style relationship or Samuel L/Bruce Willis in Die Hard 3). I can see this working but if I was a Lobo purist I'd probably be dissapointed with the PG-13 rating. I mentioned Hellboy because that also sounded like a hard for a big studio film but they did a pretty good job.
