Karl Urban to Play Priest Villain

Karl Urban has signed on to play the villain in Priest, Screen Gems' post-apocalyptic horror thriller directed by Scott Stewart, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Adapted by Cory Goodman from a TokyoPop comic, the film is set in a world ravaged by war between man and vampires. Paul Bettany stars as a warrior priest and vampire fighter who teams with a sheriff (Cam Gigandet) and warrior priestess (Maggie Q) to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.

Urban plays Black Hat, the evil leader of the bloodsuckers who was once a priest and hunter but now fancies himself a god of vampires.

Priest begins production next week in Los Angeles.

Wow....that plot has absolutely nothing to do with the manhwa. I mean, it doesn't mean the movie will be bad or anything, hell, it might even be the best vampire movie in a few years for all we know, but why the hell stamp it as Priest?

Man all the characters in this movie and being kept so legit... about as legit as Galactus being a purple ****ing cloud. I want to see Priest so bad, but not this Priest. Give me Temozarela! Give me angels jealous of god's love of humans! Come on guys!

At least the villain will LOOK like a character from the comic, assuming they keep the top hat and the long blond hair. It could be promising, as long as they don't flat out call them vampires all the time. Because in the manwah they were just the undead. And question for the people making this film - is the niece going to be Lizzy? Because that would bring it back a little bit, if Lizzy finds out that Ivan is her uncle, even though he was adopted and all that.

Also, why the heck would everybody think KEITH Urban? Karl Urban played in Star Trek and Lord of the Rings. Of COURSE it would be that guy, not some special effects guru on imdb.

This is a mix up! Paul Bettany, who's been villain is now a hero. And Karl Urban, who been hero is now a villain. What a turn a roles this turn out to be!

special effects guru?? keith urban is a singer you idiot. and don't you know every singer think they can act. but it's karl. the guy from pathfinder.

Let's just wait and see. Hope this won't be the wet dream of another greedy producer, and they deliver something cool at least. By the way, I looove Karl Urban.

I was really hoping they would have gotten Gerard Butler for the lead role (I believe they wanted him for it) but I am glad to see they have Karl Urban as the villian. That is enough for me to want to see it I don't know the guy who plays the lead role but hopefully he will do good in it. I too have to say I thought of Keith Urban as well, I was wondering what a country singer was doing trying to be in a movie like this ^_^

Screen Gems really likes Paul Bettany. He is Archangel Michael and now he's this vampire slaying priest.

This movies gonna suck. This needs to be called Vampire country hunter, not priest.

I was actually rooting for him to get the coveted role of Green Lantern. Anyways, I'm still happy for him in this role.
