Peter Berg Talks Hancock Sequel
August 18, 2009
SCI FI Wire talked to Hancock director Peter Berg about the possible sequel that would see the return of Will Smith and Charlize Theron. Here's an excerpt, which does contain spoilers:
At the end of last year's Hancock, it was revealed that Will Smith's superpowered character was actually an immortal god who became vulnerable only when in the presence of his goddess companion (Charlize Theron). Berg confirmed that a sequel would elaborate on the film's mythology.
"There might be another god out there," Berg said in an exclusive interview last month in Pasadena, Calif. "Might be another one."
If two gods render each other mortal, imagine what kind of wrench a third would throw into the mix.

I thought Hancock was Fun.....Don't know if it has a deep enough background to pull off a franchise, but I'll watch it if the make another.

Meh Hancock wasn't that good, I wouldn't really care for a sequel.

Hancock was excellent, it started off looking like it was going to be a one joke flick and then rapidly became a movie with more substance than I thought it would deliver. The mythology spin was an intelligent twist to the tale and it's unfortunate some can only appreciate one half of the movie, ignore them, bring on another!

My sentiments exactly.
For the sequel, I hope they make it fresh AND nice, should they really need to make one. It's like someone else wrote the second half, where's the suited flow, the consistancy, the villain's depth? Also they really need to double check plotholes, man I was like WTH is THIS? The big scene with Will and Charlize is retarded when she made a HUGE deal about keeping her powers private.
I could continue but I don't really wanna be that negative - loved the first half, great set up, if they make the sequel - really make a good of it this time plz kthxbye

Someone different pretty much DID write the 2nd half. When the movie was first picked up it was about a "superhero" that was completely whacked. Even went on a killing spree and stuff. Would have been a really interesting, violent movie had they left it the way the original script was done. But it was nowhere near the summer flick of the first. Still, it was okay enough I'll see the sequel. Doubt it could be much better though...

How many times can people watch Will Smith play the exact same character over and over again. Let me guess Will plays a smooth talking, wise cracking black guy that makes white people look stupid. Hey Will, Eddie Murphy called. He wants his act back.

Blaaaaaah!

Hancock sucked. I wish they would make a movie where maybe the heros turned out to be the bad guys and the villains had to become the heros and stop them. That would rock!

"Who might they face next?"
Who gives a ****? The first movie was so horrible that it doesn't matter.

Bring Bateman back or I won't be watching.

first off... hes not a superhero... an angel i think they called him. 2nd, its not a superhero movie if there are not any superheros.. its hard to mix god with superpowers because then to get an explanation u gotta go into the whole religion thing. and no one wants to go there. sure it was an entertaining movie. ill give it that.. but dont play it off as a superhero film..

there no need to make a sequel

@reelbignerd
he wasn't an angel and it had nothing to do with Christianity.
Thor's a god. Is he not a superhero?
I'd watch a second one. The first was thoroughly entertaining, and I even felt pretty bad for Hancock for most of the movie. Smith did a good job getting audiences to empathize with a jerk.
And for anybody who says he plays the same character, see Seven Pounds.

The first was only the beginning of the mythos so i'm willing to see where it goes.
Posted by: Mental on August 18, 2009 at 18:48:08
The movie made over 600 million world wide. So all of you talking ****, can shut the **** up.

He had superpowers and was fighting villains. He was a superhero.

"If two gods render each other mortal, imagine what kind of wrench a third would throw into the mix"
Wouldn't they all die? Or at least, but mortally crippled?

I will see another!
Posted by: Batchat on August 18, 2009 at 19:44:51
did anyone like Hancock? Everyone I talked to thought it was pretty weak.
Posted by: Batchat on August 18, 2009 at 19:48:40
only someone who liked "the web slinger's" movies would call Hancock an "amazing adventure" :) Lets just call Everything Amazing haha! It's all just so freakin amazing!! I'm happy for you.
