McPhee Addresses Wonder Woman Rumors

Rumors have surfaced that "American Idol" runner-up Katharine McPhee is in the running to play Wonder Woman on the big screen. She talked to Entertainment Weekly about the role:

So anyway, onto other subjects, then. One of the more interesting things I've read is that your name is being bandied about to play Wonder Woman in Joss Whedon's big-screen adaptation.
[Laughs.]

Can you discuss?
I just laugh about it. I mean, I'm not gonna deny it, or admit to it. But it's funny because no one has even received this so-called Wonder Woman script. It's like there's so much buzz created around a script that isn't even in the hands of any actresses yet. And that's all I'll really say. Yes, there have been, you know, like, conversations about it, but as far as the role being mine, or me being the lead up for it, I don't really know. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes in terms of producers and directors getting together to talk about a potential film. As far as I'm concerned, I don't even know if [a] Wonder Woman [movie] is going to happen for sure. I mean, I don't know who's financing it. So it's very flattering. And I think it's interesting how I've somehow wound up in the media again. My manager makes fun of me; he says, ''You're just like my little press hound, aren't you?'' [Laughs.]

Well, it's got to be a little flattering to be mentioned for such an iconic role.
I will say, I do hear some things my fans are concerned about — they're very protective, my fans — and when they heard I was doing a Shape magazine cover shoot — first of all I don't know how they find out about stuff like that — but they're concerned that I'm gonna be this slutty female on the cover of a magazine, and that's not my direction at all. As far as them being concerned about Wonder Woman being my first movie, I think it would be a huge mistake for me to attempt to tackle a role like that for my debut. I really want to make smart choices, and I don't think that would be a smart choice. A lot of times, regardless of whether you're a blockbuster actress, those kinds of movies fail. So it wouldn't be very smart for the girl off a reality television show to take a film like that for her first motion picture. I keep those things in mind. I'm really business-savvy.... Growing up in the business, and having parents who are in the business, I think I get it. And I understand it's not just about being talented, it's about making really smart decisions, and that's always been my priority. And, of course, the album.

did you hear that Beyoncee wants to be WW, come on!!!! DC needs to pick someone good, to be WW don't pull another Catwomen, and have a bad actress play a iconic role.

Great One..plz shut up..if beyonce WANTS to do the role..it doesnt me she actually WILL..Besides the people over at DC have learned alot from Marvel's mistakes on casting and have so far (at least with talks from TDK) been developing to make graphically dark and enterprising films..(well at least we'll see...) none the less..Before you have a fan attack just wait and see..besides WW doesn't ideally sound that great of a movie..honestly speaking and Im a fan of the character..and halle berry happens to be a great actress and beyonce for the roles so far have been good.so plz eat a **** n die :)

Stop bickering like children. Beyonce is good in the movies she's in, but she isn't Wonder Woman material. I get the feeling it'd just be two hours of non stop ass shaking...there's nothing wrong with that..but, you see my point.

Megan Fox is just breaking in and would be horrible as Wonder Woman.

An ex-American Idol runner-up with no acting experience. Hmm, that'd be the day. I'd prefer someone like Kate Beckinsale or Jennifer Connelly to play Wonder Woman.

Megan Fox wouldn't fit as Wonder Woman. She's too skinny. Wonder Woman's got to be slightly masculine with feminism.

A goddess with a ghetto attitude NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Seriously though, lets leave acting to the real actors. True Megan Fox and Kate Beckinsale have the looks and Jessica Biel has the looks talent and the body, but Jennifer Connelly is and would be perfect, all 'round.

I rather see new face for Wonder Woman, Megan Fox????? God she's skinny and ugly to play Wonder Woman.

Hey Al Simmons!!!
Megan Fox as Wonder Woman? Are you retarded?
She cant act! She's just a pretty face on a blockbuster movie!!!! Get serious!!! We want quality actors to play our superhero flicks

I`ve heard reports that Beyonce wants to play Wonder Woman. But there`s a few problems with that. One she can`t act(watch Austin Power in Goldmember or any of her other movies for confirmation of this) and two, she`s black.Believe me I know how that sounds, but I`ll explain myslef. As a black person myself,I don`t believe in affirmative action in the movies,if the character wasn`t of a minority group in the source material there`s no reason why the character should be in a big-screen translation.Whenever diversity is forced in a movie it essentially turns that character into a token character,''hence the token black guy''.Diversity in films is always good, but it should feel natural and not contrived and forced.

Yes,I know Kingpin was white in the comics and yet Michael Clark Duncan portrayed him in Daredevil ,Harvey Dent was also white in the comics(but Lando Calrissian himself Billy Dee Williams played him pre-Two Face in Tim Burton`s 1989 Batman) and Eartha Kitt played Catwoman during the campy 1960`s Batman television series, but those are lesser known characters. That wouldn`t work with characters like Superman,Batman,Spider-Man,Wonder Woman,Captain America,Thor and so on(And I do know that Will Smith was actually offered the role of Superman but he turned it down because he knew that it just wouldn`t be a good idea,is name was also thrown around as a rumor for the role of Captain America but I think he knows that portraying Cap wouldn`t work any more than it would if he were to play Superman and I `m also aware of the ''Truth ,Red,White and Black''series that Marvel introduced where prior to Steve Rogers being a volunteer for the super-soldier project the government experienced on a black regiment of soldiers against their will like the Tuskegee airmen leaving only one test subject alive-effectively the first Captain America.A Captain America that happened to be black, but it would still be for the best if the A-list characters remained the same race as they were in the comics).

Katharine Mcphee as Wonder Woman? That`s very funny.Like Beyonce, she may be beautiful but the role may acutally require her to act so that`s where it becomes a problem.I agree with the posts from Alex and Robert,I could see Kate Beckinsale or Jennifer Connelly as Wonder Woman.Jessica Biel could work as well.

Like I said about the lovely Beyonce in my last post,Wonder Woman doesn`t require a forced change to add diversity. For example I remember once when I watched Footloose on t.v. my Mom said ''where are the minorities?'' But a movie like Footloose was set in a rural small-town and in real life you rarely see minorities in those types of rural small-towns and so to add a character that belongs to a minority in certain type of films just to give the illusion of diversity as various schools and organizations are wont to, it wouldn`t feel natural it would just feel like the severely stereotyped characters in She`s All That or A Walk to Remember(Not Another Teen Movie sucked, but it probably adressed the issue of the token minority better than any movie I`ve ever seen). That`s what would happen if Beyonce played the Amazon Princess(and plus as I already mentioned the woman simply cannot act).

I don`t play the race card ever because I don`t think in terms of labels. And I`d hate to see Beyonce get the role of a iconic heroine like Wonder Woman for that exact reason any more than Jason Staham would make sense playing the Black Panther,so it absolutely goes either way.I believe in fair treatment for all, all across the board(and plus like Beyonce, Statham isn`t likely to win a oscar for his acting any time soon either).

As for Megan Fox,it all depends on a variety of factors. The stunningly beautiful young actress declared by FHM the ''sexiest woman alive'' hasn`t yet had a role that actually required her to act,the gist of Michael Bay`s brilliant directorial advice to her for the Transformers franchise so far has been''just look hot.''And the truth of the matter is, is that`s basically all she did in 2007`s Transformers and it worked because it was still a blockbuster.Fox`s being hot wasn`t the only reason for the blockbuster success of Transformers, but it was definitely one of the reasons for the blockbuster success of Transformers. Now,a role like Wonder Woman would require Fox to develope a slightly more muscular and toned physique and it would definintely require her to actually develope acting skills. So I`m still uncertain as to whether or not Fox could work in the role,we still have to see her grow as a actress(assuming that she`ll grow as a actress). So for now I`d have to say Fox wouldn`t be the best choice. I`m with Comic Geek on what he said in his post,we need quality actors
and actresses for our Superhero flicks and Megan Fox by her own admission is no quality actress.
