Update: Morgan Freeman Has No Life-Threatening Injuries

Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight) was involved in a serious car accident Sunday night in north Mississippi.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson Ben Williams said Freeman, 71, and a female passenger were traveling eastbound on Mississippi Highway 32 in Tallahatchie County when his vehicle went off the edge of the road. Freeman overcorrected, flipping his 1997 Nissan Maxima several times before coming to a rest.

Emergency crews extracted Freeman and his passenger from their vehicle using the jaws of life. According to Williams, they were both airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

Kathy Stringer, a spokesperson at The MED, said Freeman was listed in serious condition Monday morning. The condition of Freeman’s passenger has not been released.

UPDATE: The Clairon-Ledger has a very positive update:

Actor Morgan Freeman suffered some broken bones in a car accident Sunday, but will recover, friends said this afternoon.

Freeman, 71, and a passenger, Demaris Meyer, age unknown, were airlifted to a Memphis hospital following a single-car accident around 11:30 pm. Meyer’s condition was not immediately available.

Freeman’s business partner, Bill Luckett of Clarksdale, visited with the actor at the hospital today and said Freeman will be fine.

“He’s resting quietly and has some fractures. Nothing life-threatening. Nothing permanent,” Luckett said. “He’s in good spirits, but he’s in some pain.”

Filmmaker Paul Saltzman said Freeman suffered a broken shoulder and a broken arm and expected recovery time will be six to eight weeks.
