Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has picked up several overseas territories for Will Eisner’s The Spirit from Lionsgate and Odd Lot International, reports Variety.
Sony will distribute the comic book adaptation, Frank Miller’s first solo directing effort, in France, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia and wide swaths of Latin America. Lionsgate is distributing the movie Stateside and in the U.K.
“The Spirit” tells the tale of a rookie cop who returns from the dead to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. Miller, who wrote and co-directed Sin City, did the adaptation of the Eisner comic.
“The Spirit” is scheduled for a release in 2009.
