Fantastic Four Now Alone on July 8

It looks like moving Fantastic Four away from “War of the Worlds” worked out in the end. Sony announced on Monday that it will release “Bewitched” two weeks earlier on June 24th. The film, starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell, will now face Warner Bros.’ “The Dukes of Hazzard” and Disney’s “Herbie: Fully Loaded” on the new date. That leaves Fantastic Four as the only wide release on July 8th.

In early February, 20th Century Fox moved the comic book adaptation away from director Steven Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds,” which were both scheduled for the Fourth of July weekend. The Tom Cruise-starrer is the only wide release for the holiday frame and gets an early start on Wednesday, June 29, giving it a six-day opening run through Independence Day on the following Monday.

When Fantastic Four first moved, it also faced Universal’s “The Skeleton Key”, starring Kate Hudson, but the supernatural thriller got pushed back to August 12.
