More On IMAX Spider-Man 2

Hollywood Reporter offered the following additional information on the IMAX Spidey talks:

“Imax Corp. is in discussions with Sony Pictures to remaster “Spider-Man 2” for release in its large-format theaters shortly after the webbed one bows in 35mm today, the companies confirmed.

The move is a result of Warner Bros.’ decision not to release its upcoming “Catwoman” in Imax because visual effect delays won’t give Imax enough time to remaster the film with its DMR technology for day-and-date release July 23.

“When I do the Imax films, my policy is to go day-and-date,” said Dan Fellman, president of distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures. “We had very late delivery of the elements (on ‘Catwoman’), and we can’t go day-and-date, so we’re not going to go at all.”

Imax’s discussions with Sony, which an industry source said are close to being completed, concern only the release of “Spider-Man 2,” though it is possible that the studio would partner with Imax on another event film. Should a deal be completed, the earliest that a print could be ready for Imax would be July 16, and the latest July 23, a source said.”
