The Avengers have finally been brought to life and it’s made all the money everyone expected and then some. It would be foolish of us to think that WB isn’t planning to follow in the same footsteps as Marvel/Disney and release a series of films for their heroes leading into a Justice League film. There’s no official word that this is happening, but if you don’t think they’re seriously considering it that would be a mistake. Who knows, maybe next year’s Man of Steel is going to lead into the Justice League movie. If it doesn’t, WB is shooting themselves in the foot.
I wanted to do a piece that was a ‘map’ of sorts on how WB could mirror Marvel’s success at the movies and which characters they could do it with, but decided in lieu of that we’d just decide which characters need to be in the Justice League film and who should play them.
Of course the Dark Knight would be in the Justice League movie. WB would be nuts not to include him. Since they’ve already indicated that the character will be rebooted after The Dark Knight Rises anyway, there’s no sense in fans becoming married to the Nolan interpretation. Yes we all know Batman is awesome, but when he’s placed next to characters that actually have super powers and he’s still great is one thing about the character that makes him so interesting to people.
The one thing about the character that we’ve never gotten in the film versions is his personality as Batman. All the various interpretations of Bruce Wayne have been good and fun to watch in their own right, but without Batman interacting with other heroes and having that smarmy, smug attitude (not to mention his inability to play well with others) will make for interesting material on the screen.
Now who should play the Caped Crusader? There are a lot of good choices for this one, and I know I’m not alone in saying this sentiment as I’ve seen it expressed countless times, but Jon Hamm should don the cowl. We know he’s got the acting chops for the role because of the countless performances he’s turned in that are amazing. Being that he is Don Draper we know he’d make a great Bruce Wayne, but there’s not a lot of room for heroes to take off the mask in a Justice League movie so he would probably be stuck in “Bat-mode” for the film (though for someone like Hamm we’re sure an exception will be made).
