#7 Martian Manhunter
J’onn J’onzz is a fan favorite and a lot of his modern popularity steams form the DC animated films and television shows. I don’t know if the character could handle his own solo venture prior to the JLA film – maybe just cameos in Green Lantern or Superman. This might be the best course of action because as we learned in The Avengers, if you don’t know the origin of a character then it’s going to get two maybe three throw away lines that explain it all. Between this character and Green Lantern’s constructs, the special effects for this film would be ridiculous.
J’onn works better as a character with a team I think, plus his powers and appearance make him so outlandish at times that he’s bound to not be everyone’s cup of tea by himself. Using the Justice League at his side the character could become loved by audiences because they can see his human side and get to know him really well before seeing him transform into a giant space monster.
I’ve said already how many of these choices were easy but none of them were as easy as this one. The man that should play Martian Manhunter is the same guy I think should play every role, Idris Elba. He’s no stranger to comic work as he was Heimdall in Thor and Moreau in Ghost Rider 2, but if you’ve ever seen him as John Luther on his BBC series and then as Stringer Bell in “The Wire” you know that he is probably one of the most capable actors that is currently working. It sucks that as the Martian Manhunter he wouldn’t actually be on screen a whole lot, but his voice will be ever present and Elba has a hypnotic voice.
