#7 The Wasp (Janet van Dyne)
What’s an Ant-Man without a Wasp? Janet van Dyne has been a part of the Avengers as long as Hank Pym, right from the get-go. She doesn’t have the power levels of some of her peers and while you’d think the mostly male members of the Avengers wouldn’t take her seriously, you’d be surprised what a pivotal role she plays in keeping the team together. She tends to act as the female voice of reason during the testosterone-driven squabbles that always happen in these sorts of teams. She’s also into fashion and girlie things that can help the Avengers’ female fanbase find someone else to relate to. As far as her powers, there’s something to be said about getting tiny and zapping bad guys from within with her sting as well as adding to the team’s stealth factor. There’s also the drama in her relationship with Hank Pym, being one of the first superhero couples in the Marvel Universe, that could add to the team dynamics.
You know who we’ve always thought would make a great Wasp? Rachel McAdams. We’ve been saying that for years and if you look at the early issues of Tales to Astonish chronicling the Ant-Man and Wasp adventures, written by Stan Lee and drawn by Don Heck, she actually does look a lot like McAdams. (We had to go back a few years to find a picture of her with dark hair.)
