I'm 66 and have seen every FG serial, the 1980 Film, the comic books. But I really got hooked in 1951 when I saw Mac Raboy's FG as tabloid format in the Toronto Star Weekly. I'm originally from Vancouver(the sci-fi tv & movie capital) but the remakes there of andromeda strain for a&e and the flash gordon 2007 series were total crap. I hope the new FG film will pay homage to not only Alex Raymond, as in the 1980 film) but show the art of Austin Briggs, who drew FG from May 7th'44-7-25-48 as well as Mac Raboy(1948-67) - Ian Sexton

We the fans have Flash Gordon to thank for the Star Wars: Classic Trilogy. George Lucas loves the old Flash Gordon tv series and used it to adapted Episodes IV,V,VI before Episodes I,II,III. It was the old Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Greek, Roman mythology and fabled tell for the reason why Lucas gave birth to Star Wars. I hope the creators for the Flash movie get Eric Johnson or what what his last name is to play Flash from the Sci-Fi series. - Cory Morr

Let's hope this movie is like the 1980 version, just updated and less campy, and causes the TV show to be completely forgotten. - Speedball

My God... will the remakes and rehashes ever stop!

Is there anyone in Hollywood with even a minute sense of originality?

I can care less how amazing the quality of this film will be... I'm sickened by all the remakes.

Will this film have a horrible Queen soundtrack as well? - Rhodes Owns Stark

As for my above comments on the casting, I've rethought my choice for Vultan as Gerard Butler (why didn't I see that before, since I was watching 300 at the time...he's almost Vultan in that flick).
As for Flash Gordon, I'm still at a loss. Maybe an unknown?

Most people won't have seen the Sci-Fi Channel's Flash Gordon effort, so unless there are some losers who want a possible movie franchise to fail because of that show I doubt their influence will be felt that much. In fact, considering how much the tv show was slagged off by anyone who saw it, I'd say they have a heads up as to what NOT to do in a Flash Gordon pic. It should be a big, fun space adventure - they shouldn't go too wrong by sticking close to the source material.
Does it say something about how crappy Hollywood gets when they got it right in the 1930s with Buster Crabbe and apparently stunk the place out with the character in 2008! - knack

A casting list off of the top of my head:

*Flash Gordon---Gerard Butler
*Ming The Merciless---Alan Rickman
*Dale Arden---Keira Knightly
*Dr. Hans Zarkov---Ian McKellen
*Prince Baron---Clive Owen
*Alura---Megan Fox
*Vultan---How do you replace Brian Blessed?!?

That's just a random list.

Any other suggestions?

always wanted a new Flash gordon to be made ..Flash is the best hero... if they cast it right it could be great..unlike the piss poor Sci-Fi tv show... Brian Blessed should star as Vultan again..he still looks good for his age... we need that booming voice... GORDONS ALIVE... "go Flash go"... Buster crabbe was the BEST Flash... - JASON

I'm all for a Flash Gordon Movie if they'll stylize it like the original newspaper strip.
those cool spaceship, ray-guns and the men wearing capes, the women in flowing (sometimes skimpy) gowns and swordfights galore!
Otherwise, forget about it. - ZebraBob

Dude! Will someone please give this guy a damn movie to direct! Im tired of seeing his name! How many freakin movies will this guy direct? For one he's a not-so-good director, makes me wonder if hes the next Brett Ratner. i mean hes starting to sound like a cry baby...you think he goes into meetings with puppy dogs eyes asking for someone to please let him direct like Ratner does? Hey breck, pick a damn movie and stick with it! - Landon

Okay I gotta break out a Casting Call on this one. The choice of actor for playing Ming the Merciless in that Sci-Fi show was nothing short of a crime.

A perfect Ming would be Sergio Castellitto. Check him out in this summers Prince Caspian and tell me he doesn't make you can't see it. - Ultraman Nexus

The Sci-Fi Channel Flash Gordon bombed because the story was terrible, not for disinterest in the Flash Gordon mythos. - Rob

To James:
Although I haven't seen it in quite a few years, I'm pretty sure "Flesh Gordan" was just a little bit better than "Flash Gordan." If I remember correctly, didn't "Dr. JerKoff " have "Power Pasties" that shot lazers or something on his nipples? - evilkev2
