I saw a Spiderman musical at Universal Studios in Hollywood. They sang "I need a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler. That was the only time I ever barfed at an amusement park - Bob "the Goon" Guccione, Jr.

Spider-Man as a musical sounds pretty lame. I'm guessing she got out while she could. - Lance

hahahaa Jesus Christ Superstar and Amadeus are two of the worst musicals ever!

Superman was revisited 19 years after Superman IV, largely due to the studios and fans feeling that Christopher Reeve was irreplaceable. Don't forget, a fifth film WAS set to be filmed, starring Christopher Reeve. Then the studio (WB) bought the rights to the character from the Salkinds (who were responsible for the disastrous third and fourth movies) and planned a hokey sequel very loosely based off of the Death of Superman arc which had just wrapped in the comics at the time. Christopher Reeve had his tragic accident in 95, leaving everyone without a Superman. At this point, obviously, the project sat in development hell, with the worst script of all, "Superman Lives" written by Kevin Smith and producer Jon Peters, which is just too terrible to describe. Essentially, Superman was going to be remade into a character COMPLETELY different from the comics, and casting choices ranged from Will Smith, Ben Affleck, to Nicolas Cage to re-invent Superman. It's like, after Christopher Reeve was unable to play Superman, everyone lost their minds.
Two years after his death, Bryan Singer made a sleeper homage to the Donner-verse films. We had nearly 20 years between Superman IV and Superman Returns, but if the producers had their way, we wouldn't have waited half the time, and the movie would have been the WORST comic book movie of all time. Now it looks like everything is going to be redone again, with Nolan and Goyer writing the script for "Man of Steel".

Just a bit of history, in case you were wondering.

We had the Spider-man trilogy spread over five years, with the third film released in 2007. Right now, it's a couple months short of three years, but by 2012, feelings might pass a bit.

Will they be able to show us something we haven't seen before? I believe so. We still haven't seen the webshooters, and we only got a brief glimpse in each movie of Peter as a scientist rather than a socially awkward photographer who has alienated himself from his only two friends since high school. It was fun, but it wasn't definite. There really is SO much potential in rebooting a movie, exploring relationships between villains, coworkers, teachers, and classmates, without having to work around the restrictions that Sam Raimi wrote for his universe.

Imagine Doc Ock having a mind of his own, considering he is a criminal MASTERMIND in the comics. Imagine the Sandman actually making effective use of his shape-shifting abilities (which really got me, considering he can take any form he wants in the comics). Imagine Spider-man clearing the streets of a bunch of super-powered villains who have absolutely zero connection to Peter Parker. - Shayera

nelson, you seem to be with about 99% of the rest of superhero fans on the subject.
How are they going to start all over and give people a movie they've never seen before and still stay true to the character.
If there trying to emulate the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, then they should really take a look at the sales numbers on that crap. Noone reads it.
I really want to see a 3D Spidey film, but this is the wrong way to go about it. - murph

im still just not down with a spider-man reboot...this is the worst news ever because its too early and it feels like yesterday i was sitting in the theatre watching the first one and it was such a mind blowing experience, and even more so with part 2, but not so much the 3rd....i think a reboot should be 20 to 30 years later after the last movie..when the franchise no longer feels new....like what they did with superman and so on......its gonna feel odd leaving off with part 3 which left it open for a 4th and a chance to improve with new characters, then just 5 years later im going back with pete to high school when just 10 years ago i was watching him in high school when i just started high school.....hulk reboot was ok cuz there was only one in 2003 which was crap...same fore a daredevil cuz they never made a sequel or franchise and same for Ghost Rider and ever punisher which they can never seem to get right.....hell they are even trying to get Wesley Snipes to do Blade 4 and not reboot why cant they do the same for Spider-Man, a franchise that was a way bigger hit??......if people see that 5 years after spider man 3 he is back in high school with a new kid playing him and all new actors, it might not be a 300 million dollar hit the way the first 3 movies were. - nelson

Considering it's Julie Taymor helming this thing, I am completely up for this musical. I've never been a Broadway type of person, but Ms. Taymor UTTERLY blew my mind with her Broadway version of The Lion King. I actually think it's better than the Disney film, and it's my favorite Disney film.

It's because of that show that I even saw Across the Universe, which was (IMO) another amazing piece of work. So with all that, I'm really excited to see what she does with Spider-Man. - Zach

Um, senorashish, actually - in regards to Spider-Man's Mythology - he pretty much was the original comic version of Dawson's Creek; i.e. the first super-hero with real problems (like girlfriends, bills, and a sick aunt). That's what made him stand out in the beginning.

I have no problem with the love story, so long as it's not taking up every friggin moment of the film's plot. Where's Aunt May's hospital visits?! She had one in the first flick, and that was only because Gobby scared her. OOOOOH!!!

Anyway, more on topic, Universal Studios Hollywood once had a Spider-Man Musical show. I went to it once because my kid and nephew wanted to see it. It was awful!! We left halfway through, because the KIDS wanted to!! Granted, it was an amusement park attraction - not a Broadway effort - but even still... watching that crap and the singing... it was truly disconcerting. - ten_sixth

Who the hell is going to see this stupid Broadway show? I mean, seriously, Spider-Man singing and dancing, and Green Goblin doing much the same? Oy. This sounds so eye-coveringly bad that it makes me cringe just thinking about it.

It's like watching that scene in "Across The Universe" in which you have Bono channeling a homeless man channeling Robin Williams channeling back to Bono again. And the extreme close up of his face and him saying "Koo-Koo-Katchoo!" was just... yeah. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! FUNNY!

And why is Marvel so hellbent on turning Spider-Man into just another superhero version of "Dawson's Creek"? I mean, from the announcement for the reboot to this and the past Spider-Man films, I think people have to realize that the Spider-Man mythology was never centered around the ups and downs of Peter's lover life. There were actual villains with plots and stories that engaged the hero rather than having comic book after comic book of sappy romance with random villains popping up with no reason or purpose like the movies. - senorashish
