hey if freddy and jason, alien and preditor can co-exist with great stories then nolans batman and superman property can certainly, have supes and bats in one movie... the superhero movie-verse is hitting its peak in entertainment, i don't think nolan should give up on giving superman the same respect as he did batman :( - one23456789lives

I've stated this in a previous post and I'll say it again.
Just because Marvel is doing The Avengers doesn't mean now that every single Superhero movie has to be intertwined for a mega movie. Nobody even thought that was possible two or three years ago.

With a small mention of Gotham in SR, I don't think they can really launch a crossover with just that alone. Thats not nearly enough to move that forward and most people probably don't even remember that in SR anyways.

No Superman in a Batman movie and vice versa. It just wouldn't work with how Nolan has his Batman movies set up.

That being said, I hope they can really do something with Superman. You have to go away from what Donner did and thats why Singers version tanked. There are some many great villians you can pit SM against(not gonna list them, you know who they are),cause as all of you know, filmakers, studioes really haven't even scratched the surface with all the things they could do with the Superman franchise. I'm also hoping they just leave Lex Luther out of a new movie entirely. They can just say he's in jail or something, don't need him in another movie.

So I'm hoping Nolan can help aid Superman and help push it in the right direction. All Supes really needs is a good story and a kick-ass villian, and people will line up to see it. - ms33

I hope that the new batman moive is still going to be filmed in chi-town they have to. and if there is a jl movie is prob not going to be bale playing batman would be nice but since Nolan said there in there own place so is going to be a diffent batman we see but i would like to see bale be batman cuz now i don't think there is anyone eles who could do it as good as he has. - jdog

DC just answered this in an MTV interview last month. JLA is happening for sure, but they're mimicking marvel's Avengers project, so it will be some years before it's set up enough to happen. - murph

Also, Chris Nolan presumably doesn't want to make superhero movies forever, and he is concerned more than anything with the quality of an individual film as opposed to where the material can be taken in a sequel or other franchise set in the same universe (in fact, I would think that "What will DC do with my material when I stop making films for them?" never enters his mind).

As he is making his 3rd Batman film and 'mentoring' Superman, he probably is only thinking about "What will make these films good on their own?" Even though I assume he wants the 3rd Batman to conclude the story of the first 2 films with dramatic and thematic logic, his first concern is probably whether the film works on its own. (This conjecture is based on how The Dark Knight worked in relation to Begins: Bruce Wayne's parents' deaths are never mentioned, nor is Ra's al-Ghul; the only elements of Begins that are mentioned in TDK are those that are relevant to TDK's plot and thematic material (well, since Scarecrow is the only costumed villain established in any detail in Begins, he gets to play 'generic costumed villain' in TDK...which isn't THAT relevant, but defeating him and his gang shows Batman being Batman, which serves at least some small purpose)).

Finally, remember that Nolan isn't the type to let DC tell him what to do; all DC has is a (extremely powerful) veto: "No, Chris, we can't let you do that with the franchise; that scene/plot point/character action/etc must be cut or changed, period." They can't make him set things up for a JLA project or anything else (and since he is the bread and butter of their movie franchises right now, why would they push their luck by challenging his vision more than necessary?).

Besides, Nolan NOT setting up a Supes/Bats crossover and/or JLA doesn't prevent one from happening in the future either. However, it makes much more sense to first a) conclude the existing cinematic Batman story and b) make Superman a viable box office blockbuster property again. Then any crossover or JLA film won't be bogged down from unfinished Batman business from his solo films and can ensure that people might be lining up to see more than just Batman.

Well, that's my two cents anyway.... - Steerpike

Corpuscide, first off I can get my point across without calling someone names!

I'll say again, I don't want Nolan anywhere near Superman!

I want the DC comicbook version of Superman, now if that's corny than I want corny, because it's the corny Superman that the world fell in love with, not Nolans!

AND in response to the idiot who was complaining about Nolan's Batman, the all black Bat suit and saying "it's costing them bigtime" apparently you do not realize that Nolan's Batman movies have the the most successful yet, so no, it is not costing them big time. Also Nolan's Batman movies are what reignited interest in more DC movies being made. - Goblin

First off, why in the world do we need a JLA movie??? Just because marvel is gearing up for a collab flick does not mean it will work out, it could end up being a nightmare. Maybe DC would rather spend the time and money making high quality character flicks and not ever worry about taking the risk of making a cheesy super friends movie, because that is honestly the cheese they would have to be fighting while attempting to film a JLA movie. Also, why in the HELL do we have to have never ending Batman movies, why the never ending sequels. Wouldn't you rather see Nolan's movies (which have been the best to date) and see his story play out and have an END. Nolan's Batman works on the idea of the guy not wanting to be Batman forever, hell, no one would want to be, people age and get old and move on so the idea of someone wanting to run around in a Bat suit forever is ridiculous when taking place in a realistic setting as Nolan has set up with his Bat films. Demanding endless Batman movies only brings you the certain doom of another Schumacher disaster and really lowers your chances of seeing a quality Batman film. When someone has done it as well as Nolan has its a little something called don't fix what isn't broken.

DC has a more than a few heroes that could make very cool movies and it looks like those movies are on the way. So enjoy Nolan's last chapter of the Batman story and be grateful that the character has finally be given the dignity he deserves on the big screen. All of the greatest stories have a beginning and an end.

As far as Nolan being involved with Superman, it is a fantastic idea because the Superman film franchise is pretty dead as it is now and could really use some fresh ideas. I also think that Nolan does not want to completely take control though and just because he did Batman a certain way does not mean he will handle Superman in the same manor and I do not believe he wants to do that, which is why he will produce and not direct. - Goblin

The movies can build up separately and then make the crossover after 2 maybe 3 films. They don't need to happen right at this moment but Warner Brothers/DC need to have an outline and how are they're going to make it happen. They can't expect for Nolan to keep on producing Batman films for the rest of his life, Batman may have made 1 billion dollars. Yet people will get tired of the same thing over and over again.

If he were to make the movie with the characters co-existing it would take our focus away from the actual story that he is telling about the individual characters. If you notice Nolan's Batman movies are more focused on Bruce Wayne and the way he is coping with the loss of his parents, now the loss of his only love since his parents. Him taking the blame for both of those deaths and taking down those responsible. It's not the wacky adventures of Batman and his boy sidekick Robin. If we finally got Superman and Batman together on the big screen, who would care how Bruce Wayne feels? Same goes for Superman, the only one of his kind that he knows of, living in a world of fragile beings that look just like him to the point that he falls in love with one of them...Shut up and throw him through the wall!

If we finally get Batman and Superman together I honestly won't be looking for anything emotional. I want Batman in a battle suit shooting green Kryptonite lasers. Superman ripping through Wayne Tech. If you're mash up the two biggest DC characters in a movie for the first time, might as well go out swinging. - JokerTech

No Superman/Batman film? Sounds like some hollywood artsy fartsy bulls#!t. Just give the fans what they want and get your "More Holly-wood-Than-Thou" heads out of your asses before us true comic fans revolt and sabotage your film by bashing them all to hell online and downloading them to dvd and sell them for $5 each. You dont respect the fans, we won't respect you. - d3fiant

Well, there certainly is no lacking for insight in this post, regardless of how idiotic some of them may be. Chris Nolan is one of the preeminent filmmakers currently working (aside from his poor remake of INSOMNIA) and I have complete faith in him as a storyteller and a director. I'm sure that his assistance in rebooting Superman is more than welcome from the powers that be at Warner Bros. and deservedly so.

That being said, the two universes have already crossed over in film in SUPERMAN RETURNS. In a very brief moment, a newscast referred to Gotham City. The possibility for a crossover for these two characters is just that: a possibility. If they choose to go down that road, then I will follow. If not, or if DC chooses to let each film run parallel to each other film, I will not lose any sleep over it. Let Marvel do what they want, and let DC do what they think is best for the films themselves as opposed to setting each film up for a possible franchise opportunity. That way lies madness. - James Buchanan Barnes

I see where he is coming from to make them standalone, people expect them to collabrate but do you know how hard it would be to make to great icons like batman and superman together in a live movie. Yes they did it with the x-men but those charters aren't widely as known and if they messed up, heads would role. Wish they would but still harder then anyone thinks. - PIK

I'll put money on that Batman dies in the third film. No Justice League...sorry. At least not with this Batman.

My wish is that Batman dies, and a younger guy (who you would assume as Robin) finds out about Bruce being Batman and they end the movie with him in costume. - CodyChaos
